The Baseball Diaries April 12

Hello everyone and welcome to my Baseball Diaries. This article is going to recap the previous night’s performance of my team as well as one of my competitors. The goal is to give a bit of insight as to why the players were selected and maybe some roster configuration tactics. No matter how good of a fantasy player someone thinks they are, no one can predict the future. All we can do is use our best judgment and sound strategy to be successful. So in lieu of handing out player picks, I present to you my Baseball Diaries.

Yu Darvish Felix Hernandez – Yu was 30% owned in the DFBC and 52%+ owned in the big Draftkings tournament. Not much ground to be gained at those percentages. On the flip side EMAC used Felix. So let’s analyze this. Basically the same price ($100 difference). In the end Felix outscored him by 3 points. Not a huge gap. The biggest factor separating these guys was Yu 30% owned and Felix a mere 6.3. This move didn’t really pay off for EMAC, as the final score wasn’t that much different, but if Yu goes out and has an off game it would have been a monumental strategic move on EMAC’s part. Instead the monumental move was the guy who won this thing with RYU at .5% owned and a score of 19. Sick play and a sick score as Arizona is notorious for crushing lefties at home.

Adrian Gonzalez Adam Dunn – On any night where there is a full slate of games, I honestly feel like you could almost throw darts at a wall to pick your 1st baseman. There is usually around a dozen solid options. Gonzalez put up a nice number, but he was honestly like my 4th option. Hosmer was my cash game guy.

Mike Zunino- Zunino was the play at catcher that made this team work for EMAC. Spending minimum salary and grabbing an 8.5 spot out of your punt catcher is great. Beat the hell out of my David Ross vs a LHP punt.

Brad Miller – I think it’s about time to recognize Brad Miller as a great GPP SS play. He continues to produce and has 2 HR potential on any given night. Now guys who are solid plays nightly and also have 2 HR upside aren’t rare in MLB, but those guys usually aren’t priced this low and always under owned.

Conor GillaspieEMAC made an incredible showing in this event. What is striking about his team is that Conor Gillaspie was his highest owned player. Only 11.3%. That’s amazing to field a team of guys that under owned. It’s the type of strategy that some guys are very good at. It’s not my style, but it does work. He had a team full of red-liners. Not sure if red-liners is a term that’s already been coined for under owned players in a GPP, but if not then I’m adding it to the DFS dictionary and taking credit.

Moose Tacos has been brutal this year but I thought I could catch lightning in a bottle against a bad P. In a cash game you could live with his 2.5 points, but in the DFBC I was hoping for a HR.
I tried to get a little too fancy with Ryan Roberts. He usually hits well against lefties and he was minimum salary. He just didn’t come through on this night.
