The Masters Weather Forecast and Projections 2023

Updated 4/6/2023

With The Masters right around the corner, it’s time to start taking a look at how weather might impact things. We’re starting to be able to fine-tune the forecast and hammer out some of the timing specifics with regard to the rain and wind.

It might be a time to see how the PGA Weather could give you an edge on a site like No House Advantage, where you can use our No House Advantage promo code to get a $100 Instant Deposit Match.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

The Masters Weather Report & Forecast

The bottom line is that rain will be an issue, in particular on Saturday, but I don’t think the entire tournament is a washout. Here’s a day by day breakdown to help.

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, April 6th

Our dry (or at least mostly-dry) day. No AM rain, with 5-10mph winds through the morning, dropping a touch to around 5mph by the afternoon. There’s a low chance of an afternoon shower or two.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, April 7th

Morning weather looks fairly quiet, mostly dry with a 5mph wind. By the afternoon both the wind and the rain chances increase. I expect scattered showers in the afternoon, highest coverage coming in the late afternoon, with winds picking up to 10-15mph in the late afternoon as well.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, April 8th

The wettest day of the tournament. Widespread showers with an isolated storm. I’m not sure if it’s “playable” rain or “call it for the day” rain, but it’s going to rain most of the day. Winds are steady around 10mph.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, April 9th

Still a chance for rain, especially early. Models a bit split on the timing of the exit of our rain, with some having it clear all day and others clearing the rain by the afternoon. They’ll come into better agreement and I’ll update things as they do. Winds around 10mph all day.

Overall Masters Weather Forecast

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. For the Masters, it looks like more of a rain/delay threat, and less of a “strong wind to be avoided” kind of setup. Wind-wise I think you get a very slight advantage by taking Thursday PM / Friday AM golfers, as they’ll see slightly lighter winds both days… but even the worst of the wind on both of those days is manageable, so it’s not a huge edge. As for the rain, well… it’s going to rain at times, especially Saturday, we’ll see if they try to play through or call it. I’ll stay on top of it. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
