We’re teeing off for The Players Championship this week, where we’ll be watching for some breezy winds and scattered showers.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

The Players Championship Weather Report & Forecast

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, March 9th

Breezy but manageable. We’ll have morning winds around 5-10mph, afternoon winds 10mph.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, March 10th

Similar to Thursday, we’ll see 10mph winds in the morning, pushing between 10-15mph by the afternoon with stronger gusts. We’ll also have to contend with some scattered showers and storms on Friday, so a delay isn’t out of the question.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, March 11th

It gets a bit breezy Saturday, sustained winds of 15-20mph are possible with stronger gusts. It should be breezy all day, but right now models are showing the strongest could come through the morning hours.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, March 12th

Pretty nice day to close things out. 10mph sustained winds.

Overall Players Championship Weather Forecast

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. For this tournament I think there’s a slight edge to be had by avoiding the peak wind timeframe of Friday afternoon, so a Thurs PM / Fri AM would be my lean (barely). It’s possible we can find a slight edge on Saturday as well (slightly easier in the afternoon than the morning), so that’s something we’ll need to monitor as we get closer to the weekend. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
