2024 The Sentry Weather Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for The Sentry this week in Kapalua, Hawaii, and not surprisingly the winds will be a major obstacle.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the time frame with the lightest winds, and the time with the strongest winds and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

The Sentry Weather Forecast

Thursday, January 4th

Nice start. It’s about a 5-10 mph AM wind, increasing to 10-15 mph by the afternoon.

Friday, January 5th

Friday gets a bit uglier. We’re starting with a 10 mph wind, and that will gradually increase to 15-20 mph in the afternoon, with gusts likely at 25 mph or higher. It’s the windiest timeframe of the tournament.

Saturday, January 6th

Winds lie down a bit here, back to around 10-15 mph through the day.

Sunday, January 7th

Closing it out with maybe the nicest day of the tournament. Winds should hold around 5-10 mph sustained all day long.

The Sentry Weather Thoughts

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In the case of The Sentry, the wind will be an issue, but it doesn’t seem like we’ll be able to avoid it. Due to the condensed start times, it’s tough for us to find a usable edge here. Just know that Friday afternoon is going to be somewhat problematic. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
