Here are some players from Friday’s NBA slate to consider making picks on
With the Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers being the first game being nationally televised Friday, I’m focusing on Franz Wagner and Donovan Mitchell. In general, I’m tapering expectations of a lot of points being scored in this game due to both defenses ranking top six in scoring.
I think both players Mitchell will both go lower on their respective point projections. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen are as formidable a matchup as it gets, and I think Wagner will struggle efficiency wise without Paolo Banchero in the lineup. In the case of Mitchell, Jalen Suggs and Kentavious Caldwell Pope are as tough a backcourt to score on as you’ll find.
The other game getting national TV coverage is the Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves. I anticipate a high scoring game as both teams have high volume scorers in Nikola Jokic and Anthony Edwards leading the charge.
I expect Edwards to go higher on his point projection. With Caldwell-Pope now in Orlando, the Nuggets’ defense has taken a significant step back. As we expected entering the season, Edwards has seen an increase in attempts and makes as he has to do more with Karl-Anthony Towns no longer there.
As for Jokic, I like him going higher than his assist projection more than anything. Rudy Gobert is one of the best defenders of his generation, so I think Jokic will need to create for others more than he’ll be able to create for himself.
