It’s a wonderful day for bats, as the only high-end pitchers on the slate today are in really tough matchups. Without any true aces on the mound, we’re looking at the Spencers (Arrighetti and Schwellenbach) as the likely top scorers tonight. This leaves tons of strong options for hitters, especially considering the San Diego Padres begin their series in Coors Field. There are plenty of bats to sort through tonight, but I’m confident we can come away with the top Underdog Fantasy MLB predictions.
First, I’ll break down my favorite Underdog Fantasy MLB plays of the day; then, you can find a few more suggestions (pick only) at the bottom. Let’s get to it!
Top Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks Today
Jake Cronenworth – Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
The Padres have BY FAR the highest implied team total of the day, with a whopping 6.5 runs projected for them in Coors Field. Cal Quantrill has some ground ball abilities for the Rockies, but he’s one of the worst pitchers in their starting rotation and is very attackable. Cronenworth hasn’t shown all that much power this season, but he’s now on a 6-game hitting streak and has been playing much better baseball in the second half of the season. Tonight, he projects for 2.31 total bases in the RotoGrinders projections.
- MLB PICK: Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Shohei Ohtani – Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: When I can get a Shohei Ohtani pick’em play of 1.5 total bases available, I’m taking it every single time. He projects for a ridiculously high 3.33 total bases tonight against Miles Mikolas and the St. Louis Cardinals, and chances are he’s going to knock one out of the park again tonight. Mikolas has given up a .216 ISO on 52% hard hits, while Ohtani has a .391 ISO against righties this season.
- MLB PICK: Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Alex Bregman – Higher Than 1.5 Total Bases
Bregman has been on an obscene tear recently, hitting a home run in four of his past five games. Tonight, he faces Garrett Crochet, and although Crochet was elite earlier in the season, he has seriously fallen off as the fatigue has set in, especially to right-handed hitters. Bregman boasts a .269 ISO to left-handed pitching over the past month and projects for 1.68 total bases tonight in the RotoGrinders projections. To make things even sweeter, he even has a payout boost of 1.18x on Underdog to have higher than 1.5 total bases.
