Utah has had a stellar season to this point and have put themselves in the driver’s seat to earn the fourth spot in the playoff rankings, assuming Georgia loses to LSU on Saturday. They boast one of the top defenses in the country statistically only allowing 11.3 points and 241.6 yards per game. Zack Moss is one of the top running backs in the country when healthy and quarterback Tyler Huntley has been incredibly efficient this season completing 75% of his passes and throwing 16 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions. On paper, they look like one of the most complete teams in the country and have dominated the majority of their opponents. My only gripe with this team is that they play in the Pac-12. Their schedule does not feature one team that is currently ranked in the top 25. Their best win is against and Arizona State team who was ranked no. 17 at the time but has dropped 3 out of 5 games since. So how good are they really? This is the week we find out.

Pac-12 Championship Picks— Oregon vs. Utah

Giving Oregon 6.5 points in this game is generous to say the least. Honestly, I like their chances to win this game outright. To me, this game is going to come down to which Justin Herbert shows up under center for the Ducks. I think he is arguably the best quarterback prospect coming out in this years draft. This game is a chance for him to prove that. It’s worth noting that Oregon is a bit more battle tested than Utah. In Week 1, the Ducks lost a hard fought contest to the Auburn Tigers on a last second touchdown. Had that not happened, the focus would be on Oregon possibly making the College Football Playoff.

Oregon’s offense is the best Utah has faced this season and it will be interesting to see if they can keep their ariel attack at bay. Herbert is 18th in the country in passing yards and his 31 touchdown passes have him tied for 9th in that category. He has struggled a bit in the last two weeks, but if we get the guy who’s supposed to be a top 10 draft pick I think the Ducks should be able to keep it within a touchdown.

As for the total, 45.5 seems low. It makes sense because both teams are allowing well under 20 points per game this season. However, I like the over. Oregon’s offense is far better than anything Utah has faced this season and it will show on Friday night. Both teams can comfortably score in the 20s. Utah has scored 30 plus in all but one game this season and Oregon has only failed to reach the 20 point mark once. I expect the game to be close and I expect it to go over 45 points.

My Pac 12 Championship Picks: Oregon +6.5 & Over 45.5.
