We’re teeing off for The Valero Texas Open in San Antonio this week, where we’ll be watching for some breezy winds and scattered showers.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Valero Texas Open Weather Report & Forecast

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, March 30th

There’s a chance for rain all day, though I don’t think lightning is very likely, so hopefully we can play through any rain that does fall. Wind-wise we’re starting off with a 5-10mph wind for most of the morning, but that will climb to around 15mph sustained with stronger gusts by the afternoon.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, March 31st

Almost a reverse of Thursday, it’s 15mph sustained winds to start, gradually tapering off through the afternoon to 10mph sustained or less.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, April 1st

Back to a more typical pattern for the weekend, that’s lighter winds in the morning (5-10mph), building to around 10-15mph with stronger gusts by the afternoon. Low (but not “no”) chance of a shower or storm.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, April 2nd

Pretty similar to Saturday, a chance for a shower or storm with lighter AM winds getting a bit breezy in the afternoon.

Overall Valero Texas Open Weather Forecast

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. For this tournament I think there’s an edge to be had with a Thurs AM / Fri PM build, as it gives you slightly lighter winds both days. That being said, it’s not a massive edge on either day, but any weather advantage is worth noting, and I think it’s worth factoring in to your decision making.
