We’re teeing off for the Valero Texas Open this week in the lovely city of San Antonio, TX, and the weather is great for our needs… good enough for golf and a nice weather edge to be had!

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Valero Texas Open Weather Forecast

Thursday, March 28th

Best day of the tournament. Calm early morning winds only increase to around 5-10 mph for most of the day. Sunny skies, no worries.

Friday, March 29th

Friday, we get a bit breezier. We’ll start in the 5-10 mph range, be at 10-15 mph by noon, and should be in the 15-20 mph range with 25 mph gusts through the afternoon.

Saturday, March 30th

Just a generally breezy day. It’s possible the strongest winds come early, but I don’t think the difference will be too pronounced between waves. Winds around 15-20 mph all day.

Sunday, March 31st

Winds are lighter for Sunday, 5-10 mph, with just a low chance of rain. It’s a nice way to close out the tournament.

Valero Texas Open Weather Thoughts

An easy way to get the best of the weather here is by going with a Thursday PM / Friday AM build. Dodging those gusty winds on Friday afternoon should be a bit of a difference-maker to scores.
