Vanek's Views: DraftKings NFL DFS Tips for Week 1 WRs
Using his experience as a former scout and staff member at Central Florida under Josh Heupel, Jordan Vanek takes an in-depth look at the upcoming NFL DFS main slate on DraftKings. Formerly of The 33rd Team and 4for4 Fantasy Football, Jordan will do a deep dive into the best ways to attack the wide receiver position to help you climb the leaderboards.
The wide receiver position is one that I will always get the most gratification in getting “correct” and finding that low-owned play that makes a significant impact. That feeling was first found in 2016 when I had 100 percent Chris Hogan on a 2-game prime-time slate because I noticed the Ravens were struggling on the deep ball from the slot, and he was in that role for the Patriots. It was one of two regular season games in Hogan’s career in which he had over 100 yards receiving.
The first week of the NFL season is all about identifying changes in team schemes and how they will impact player performance. Take Tyreek Hill with the Miami Dolphins, for example. Many expected his production to decline moving from Patrick Mahomes to Tua Tagovailoa, but Mike McDaniel’s system helped him thrive as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers.
At RotoGrinders, we continuously adjust our projections to anticipate these changes, and our NFL DFS optimizer is a powerful tool for finding the best possible outcomes. While our projections provide valuable guidance, it’s the on-field performance that ultimately decides the results.

The Broncos’ cornerbacks are not equipped to handle Seattle’s passing attack. Last season, Denver allowed over 9 yards per attempt to outside receivers and 8.5 yards to slot receivers, ranking among the worst in the league. Teams with similar stats—Detroit, Cincinnati, and Washington—all gave up 300+ yards to Geno Smith.
With new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb in from the University of Washington, the Seahawks’ passing game is set to improve. Grubb’s scheme should unlock…
