Weekly Rankings Update: Congress Edition

congress

What’s up Grinders? Long time no see!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “What the heck Cruzin, where have you been? We missed your elegant writing style and witty humor!”

Well friends, allow me to explain. You see, we here at RotoGrinders are a lot like the US Congress in that we like to wait until we are at the utmost critical part of the year…and then go on a month long vacation. For Congress, that includes things like country-wide economic collapse, but for us, that would be the NFL season. But now that we’re well rested and perfectly tan, it’s time to get back to work!

What Really Happened

All joking aside, as many of you know, we rolled out a brand new site a while back that would allow us to scale with our rapidly increasing user base and be able to introduce new features and tools faster. Part of the transition from the old site to where we are now included some reworking of the code behind our rankings. That, combined with the incredible surge in NFL results we’ve been getting this year from our partner sites, has led to us falling a bit behind with our overall and seasonal Grinders rankings.

With that said, we’ve finally got the process under wraps, and we’re almost 100% caught up to date. To be completely transparent, here is exactly where we stand with our rankings as of the writing of this article:

- Weeks 5 and 6 NFL results from DraftKings have fallen a bit behind, because the rapid growth of the DK userbase has required DraftKings to provide a new method for us to acqure and compile the results. We are very close to finalizing this new process, and while we don’t have a set date, they should be imported soon.

- We had a similar issue with CFB results recently, and all CFB results that we’ve received to date have now been added.

So now we’re just about caught up with our rankings process, and it’s time to get rollin’ again! A lot has happened since the last time we were here, so there will be plenty to talk about, especially in the coveted Tournament Player of the Year race.

Okay, now that we’re all on the same page, let’s get to the rankings, shall we?

Movement in the Top-25 This Week

Notes

Obviously there’s been a fair amount of movement in the top 25 since we last went through the update, as a lot has happened with the introduction of massive NFL prize pools. The most notable is mbomb44 who made a massive jump from 31st all the way to 17th.

Moving up that many spots, even over a longer period of time, is no small task. Our ranking system takes a lot of things into account (site diversity, volume, big wins, etc) and the competition at the top is extremely difficult. He might not be a “household name” in DFS right now, but one thing is for certain, he’s probably pretty darn good.

Notes

The obvious story here is the winner of the first DraftKings Millionaire Maker, SamENole. SamE bested over 92,000 other entries a couple weeks ago to take home an absolutely incredible $1,000,000 first place prize! Obviously a take down of this magnitude is going to have massive impact on the TPOY race, as it was easily the largest one week, direct buy-in first place prize we’ve ever seen.

The score rocketed him all the way up to 11th place, passing other DFS studs like Troll4MVP, PrimeTime420, Mirage88, and many more. He still has a pretty big gap to cover to catch up to McJester, but it’s certainly a start. After all, we all know that while a million bucks is pretty sweet, nothing really compares to the glory of the RotoGrinders Tournament Player of the Year. Now that, my friends, is something money can’t buy!

Notes

The interesting thing for me in the monthly leaderboard is the fact that team killab2482 is leading the pack by a wide margin, while condia leads the overall NFL race. Seems like condia might have taken a few weeks “off” this month (and by “off” I mean playing a normal human level of volume instead of playing ALL THE THINGS).
