2024 Wells Fargo Championship Weather Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for the Wells Fargo Championship this week in Charlotte, NC, and I do see some potential weather we should be aware of.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Wells Fargo Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, May 9th

A pretty good chance of rain early. Winds might start on the lighter side (5-10 MPH) but should climb to around 15-20 MPH around noon. Those winds will gradually taper off in the late afternoon.

Friday, May 10th

Winds 5-10 MPH early and 10-15 MPH in the afternoon. Chance for rain/storms.

Saturday, May 11th

Pretty nice stuff through the weekend. Light winds climbing to around 10-15 MPH by the afternoon, but no rain.

Sunday, May 12th

Similarly quiet weather to close things out. Light AM winds and manageable afternoon winds.

Wells Fargo Championship Weather Thoughts

The worst of the wind may end up being around noon on Thursday, but I’m not sure there’s a clear way to avoid that (especially since we may or may not get a delay Thursday morning). I don’t have a strong lean on which way to build for weather purposes.
