This week, Joe Cistaro delivers Wyndham Championship golf betting picks as golfers prepare for Sedgefield Country Club.

The regular season on the PGA Tour concludes at the Wyndham Championship. Players take on Sedgefield Country Club for their last chance at valuable FedEx Cup points. While many players are looking to better their position ahead of next week’s playoffs, Justin Thomas, Shane Lowry, and Adam Scott are looking to punch a ticket into the event. With only 70 spots available, plenty can change in the final weekend.

Start with our betting preview, and then let’s build this week’s betting card.

2023 Wyndham Championship Betting Preview

Key Statistics

Unless mentioned otherwise, all strokes gained statistics will be referenced over the player’s previous 24 rounds on the PGA Tour.

Wyndham Championship Picks and Predictions

Denny McCarthy – Best Odds +2500 (PointsBet)

We have one last field that Denny should be considered a favorite in. There is no way I am avoiding an outright wager on him.

Denny is one of the leaders in the field in Par 4: 400-450 scoring. This makes a lot of sense when considering what type of player we are discussing. While he has added distance off the tee, he isn’t an especially long-hitter. That said, the length of the shorter holes places a greater emphasis on Denny’s best skill — putting. Denny leads the field in putting by a large margin. If he can position himself well off the tee and have a good week with his wedges, we are looking at another great opportunity for McCarthy to notch his first career win.

There is no way I am sitting this one out. We will put 1.5 units on Denny this week.

Aaron Rai – Best Odds +4000 (BetMGM)

As per our betting preview, Aaron Rai might fit this course even better than Denny McCarthy at a much more palpable price.

Rai leads the field in the short Par 4 length and fairways. He excels on Par 5’s and ranks in the top portion of the field in Eagles. Where Rai struggles, his putting is where we are hoping for a breakthrough. With his profile, Rai makes sense as a bet in any format. The putting makes the play a bit more risky, but as an outright, we are looking for a ceiling — not a median result. If Rai can putt it well, he will be contending on Sunday.

We will include him for 0.9 units as an outright bet.

Doug Ghim – Best Odds +8000 (PointsBet)

Ghim has been on a run of solid form, giving him just the smallest of hope to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. A victory seems necessary, and the course seems to play to his strong suits well.

Ghim brings an excellent approach game and rests in the top ten in our key Par 4 range as well as proximity from 150-175 yards. With the plurality of holes falling in this range, Ghim should be able to create a plethora of opportunities at birdie. With Ghim, as always, putting the is the issue.

So, unlike Rai who truly fits this course perfectly, Ghim feels like an outright only bet at this price. The variance of his putter makes me less inclined to bet on a top-finisher number. Instead, I want the full value of this 80-1. We only need a half-unit on Ghim.

Adam Schenk – Best Odds +8000 (FanDuel)

Priced the same as Ghim, Schenk actually can putt. His playoff spot is already locked in, as he sits at 23rd in the standings ahead of this event. A strong result here would likely lock up another round for Schenk — who has put together his best season on tour.

With already a couple of close calls, this field is the perfect strength for Schenk to take advantage of. His approach game fits this course especially well, and he should create plenty of opportunities. Unlike his brethren on tour, Schenk actually can putt and should cash in more frequently than our previous two bets. We have been on Schenk a lot this season. With stacked fields ahead, this feels like a better time to get him at a favorable number.

Additional Outrights

Alex Smalley (+4500) – A club member at Sedgefield, Smalley has two strong finishes over the past two seasons. His approach game is great and the home cooking should mitigate his putting woes.

Justin Suh (+9000) – Suh sits third in putting. We have bet him outright before. He needs a big week to qualify for the playoffs. We are in one last time.

2023 Wyndham Championship Betting Card

Golfer Odds Units Payout
Denny McCarthy +2500 1.5 37.5
Aaron Rai +4000 0.9 36
Alex Smalley +4500 0.8 36
Doug Ghim +8000 0.5 40
Adam Schenk +8000 0.5 40
Justin Suh +9000 0.4 36

Wyndham Total Units in Play – 4.8

2023 Net Units: +15

We lost 4.45 units during last week’s 3M Open. Keith Mitchell hovered around the top of the leaderboard but never really had a chance as Lee Hodges put together an unbelievable performance. With this being the last full-field tournament of the year, I don’t mind extending it a little bit. However, the trip to Las Vegas might make that a bit more challenging (ironically).
