After a break in the action, the PGA TOUR returns to close the regular season at the 2024 Wyndham Championship. Sedgefield Country Club will host the final event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs. That means that this will be the end of many seasons on the PGA TOUR. Also, many players will fight to claim the final few spots in the standings. Let’s dig into the field, betting odds, and course before making this week’s golf betting picks.

Here are recent winners of The Wyndham Championship:
- 2023 – Lucas Glover (-20)
- 2022 – Tom Kim (-20)
- 2021 – Kevin Kisner (-15)
- 2020 – Jim Herman (-21)
- 2019 – J.T. Poston (-22)
- 2018 – Brandt Snedeker (-21)
- 2017 – Henrik Stenson (-22)
- 2016 – Si Woo Kim (-21)
The Wyndham Championship hardly boasts the top talent of the PGA TOUR in its field. However, each season the Wyndham Championship offers an opportunity for players looking to make a name for themselves to improve their standing on TOUR. Tom Kim won the event in 2022 with an all-time putting performance that propelled him to the playoffs. Lucas Glover reinvigorated his career in 2023 with back-to-back wins starting at Sedgefield Country Club. This season, a handful of players will fight to make the playoffs and potentially make a late run at a lot of money and even more status.
Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim headline this field concerning form, while Jordan Spieth headlines this field in name. Spieth, like Min Woo Lee, should be fine for the playoffs but will be looking to find form that has eluded him throughout this season. Billy Horschel and Shane Lowry return after great performances at The Open Championship. Akshay Bhatia and Cameron Young represent the younger contingent ready to break out before the postseason begins.
Here are the five players sitting in the final five of 70 spots that will play next week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship:
66) Jhonattan Vegas
67) Emiliano Grillo
68) Seamus Power
69) Brendon Todd
70) Victor Perez
The course will set up well for Brendon Todd, and Victor Perez will come in riding the high of an epic Sunday performance at the International Golf Event that was in Paris. These players, though, are on the bubble and will need to play well to keep their seats for the playoffs.
Here are the first five players on the outside looking into the FedEx Cup Playoffs:
71) Davis Riley
72) Andrew Putnam
73) Kurt Kitayama
74) Luke List
75) Lucas Glover
Will Glover have another magical ride in the tank for this season? The shorter Sedgefield Country Club suits Glover’s skill set. Let’s look at the course before placing our PGA betting picks.
The Wyndham Championship Betting Tips & Preview
- Course: Sedgefield CC
- Date: August 8 – 11
- Par: 70
- Yardage: 7,131
- Greens: Bermuda
A Donald Ross design, Sedgefield Country Club is typical of a short course on the PGA Tour. Our list of previous winners show that length is not required to win at this course. Favoring precision off the tee over length, the Wyndham Championship will quickly become an approach and putting contest.
The plurality of par 4s on the course falls between 400-450 yards. Since most holes fall in this range, proximity from 150-175 yards will be vital to success this week. Sungjae Im ranks second for this par 4 length and is in good enough form to confirm his odds this week. Im will be this week’s one-and-done selection in my small pool where I am chasing one player. First place can not use Im.
When betting on outrights, around-the-green play will not even be considered. Over the years, T10 finishers gain strokes putting and on approach play nearly four times as much as around the green. Instead, we should emphasize approach play and opportunities to convert birdies. Judging by historical winning scores, players must go low to have a chance at victory this week.
The two par 5s are easily the best scoring holes on the course, with eagle rates above 4%. We will include eagles in our modeling this week to see who most frequently converts these opportunities, as these two holes will likely need to be birdie-or-better holes. Unsurprisingly, four of the hardest holes on the course are the longest. The par 4s above 500 yards and both par 3s above 200 yards will be holes where players look to make par and attack the rest of the course.
For modeling purposes, we are going to focus on scoring. SG: Approach, Fairways, Putting, Par 4: 400-450 yards, Proximity 150-175 yards, Eagles, and BOB% will be the key statistics we use to find this week’s scoring machines. Let’s place some PGA bets.
- SG: Approach
- Fairways
- SG: Putting
- Birdies or Better Gained
- Opportunities Gained
- Proximity 150-175
- Eagles

The Wyndham Championship Golf Picks
Unless mentioned otherwise, all Strokes Gained statistics will be referenced over the player’s previous 24 rounds on the PGA TOUR.
Aaron Rai +3500 (BetMGM)
I never prefer to bet Aaron Rai because he tends to make a better top-finisher bet than an outright selection. That said, this season’s form has been incredible, as Rai continues to make leaps on the PGA TOUR Schedule. Sedgefield Country Club, despite his iffy two starts at this venue, is a great course for Rai’s profile.
A fairway finder, Rai ranks 8th in approach and 13th in putting in this week’s fields. Before the Open Championship when Rai caught the bad wave, he posted three consecutive T10 finishes. His inability to close is a concern, but nobody can close until they do. We will attach an each-way and hope for a boost somewhere to bump up his price.
Luke Clanton +5500 (BetRivers)
Luke Clanton will play this week after missing the cut at the 3M Open. The Florida State Seminole will play on a sponsor’s exemption and continue to wow spectators. Clanton ranks 8th in this field over his 18 rounds on the PGA TOUR in SG: Approach and second in BOB Gained.
The budding star ranks in the top 25 in fairways, opportunities, and eagles. We must get ahead of this kid before he becomes a pro and costs us way more of our weekly allocation. We will tie an each-way to the young gun and hope he stays hot this week.
Victor Perez +8000 (bet365)
Victor Perez makes the card hoping to hang on to his spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Perez does not rank too highly in most of this week’s statistics. He excels in eagles and putting. However, let’s afford ourselves the right to make one narrative play.
Perez needs to play well to play the following week. Also, Perez is coming off of a Sunday to remember. Possibly the highlight of his career, Perez nearly won a medal with one of the best back nines the field offered in Paris. Perez made everything on Sunday, igniting his home crowd before falling short of a medal (one stroke behind Hideki Matsuyama).
Let’s add him to our card and hope he rides this wave of momentum.
Quick Hitters
Andrew Novak +9000 (bet365) – Novak checks our putting and approach boxes and is on a strong run of form. 90-1 feels too nice.
Lucas Glover +10000 (bet365) – Feels too steep for a course that we know suits the Glove. He needs a great finish to lock up a playoff spot. Worth the each-way.
Michael Thorbjornsen +12500 (bet365) – Budding star like Luke Clanton. Already has his status on the PGA TOUR in 2025 and seems on the cusp of a breakout win. Can he pull a Tom Kim? Love the price with the each-way at bet365.
