XFL Football Betting Guide 2023
After a three-year hiatus, the XFL will return in mid-February. This iteration of the league will feature new teams, innovative rules, and countless cameos from The Rock.
The 2020 XFL season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, bankrupting the previous ownership group. A team led by Dwayne Johnson stepped in and purchased the league and it will make its triumphant return on February 18.
Bettors in states with legal US sports betting will be able to wager on XFL games. If you’re in a state that is still waiting to legalize online sports betting, you can still play XFL DFS at daily fantasy sports sites like DraftKings and FanDuel.
RotoGrinders’ XFL DFS content will be part of our Combo Product – it will include LineupHQ access and projections for every slate!

Unique XFL Rules
Here are some of the main rules that differ from the NFL:
No Kicking Extra Points: The extra point rules will carry over from the 2020 season. Teams have three options following touchdown scores.
- 1-point conversion from the 2-yard line
- 2-point conversion from the 5-yard line
- 3-point conversion from the 10-yard line
A defensive touchdown on a conversion results in the same number of points as the conversion try (ex. returning an interception on a 3-point conversion would be 3 points for the defense).
Double Forward Pass: This rule is back too. Teams can throw two forward passes as long as the first pass is caught behind the line of scrimmage and the ball doesn’t cross the line of scrimmage.
Pace of Play: Couple changes here to speed the game up:
- 35-second play clock, which begins following the previous play
- The clock starts following incomplete passes and out of bounds plays prior to the two-minute warning of either half
- The clock will stop following first downs after the two-minute warning of either half.
Options to Keep the Ball: In addition to a traditional onside kick, teams can also try a 4th and 15 conversion from their own 25-yard line to maintain possession. The 4th and 15 option is only available in the 4th quarter.
Overtime: Teams will alternate 2-point attempts from the opponent’s 5-yard line. The OT period consists of three attempts per team or until winner is decided.
