XFL Week 3 Betting Recap

We had another profitable weekend with XFL Week 3 betting picks, albeit not as successful as Week 1 and XFL Week 2 betting picks.

With oddsmakers adjusting the point totals after six of the first eight games went under, the Over hit in two games.

Our 4-2 record through Saturday and Sunday moves our record to 12-3 on the year.

XFL 2020 Betting Picks Record: 12-3

Updated 2020 XFL Championship Odds – Week 4

All odds are courtesty of FanDuel Sportsbook and accurate as of February 21, 2020.

The Houston Roughnecks are the last remaning undefeated team thanks to the Los Angeles Wildcats upset over the DC Defenders.

The most surprising team, however, is the St. Louis BattleHawks, whose odds moved from +1000 to +450 after earning their second win of the season.

There might be some value on the Wildcats +1000 if you believe Week 3 wasn’t a fluke. It was only their second game with starting quarterback Joe Johnson. Despite his absence in Week 1, the Wildcats are still second in points scored behind the Houston Roughnecks. Their defense has been a concern, but they were able to hold Cardale Jones and the Defenders to 9 points.

The Wildcats are 8-point favorites against the New York Guardians on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Roughnecks and Dallas Renegades clash in a Lonestar showdown, which is good news for Los Angeles. But barring an unforeseen injury to Phillip Walker, I have a difficult time picturing anyone other than the Roughnecks representing the XFL West in the 2020 XFL Championship.

XFL Week 4 Betting Picks for Saturday

Los Angeles Wildcats at New York Guardians +8, O/U 39

2 p.m. ET on ABC

The Los Angeles Wildcats added a W to the win column while dealing the D.C. Defenders their first L. It was the only upset of the weekend, but the Wildcats looked better offensively and defensively.

As mentioned earlier, Joe Johnson missed Week 1. Johnson, who has NFL experience, is a formidable XFL quarterback and gives this team hope going forward, especially if the defense plays like it did a week ago.

They shouldn’t have a problem slowing down the New York Guardians (1-2), but two injuries make this game a little more of a wildcard to predict.

The first is to Wildcats receiver Nelson Spruce. Spruce, one of the top receivers in the XFL, leads the league in receptions and is Joe Johnson’s no. 1 target.

For the Guardians, quarterback Matt McGloin is ruled out. However, that might not be a bad thing. In fact, some think second-string quarterback Luis Perez will give the Guardians offense a boost.

While some unusual turnovers by Cardale Jones & Co. aided the Wildcats 30-point win, I’m buying the Wildcats’ improvement. I expect the Guardians continue to struggle on Saturday, and the Wildcats get their second decisive victory in as many weeks.

XFL Betting Pick: L.A. Wildcats -8

Seattle Dragons at St. Louis BattleHawks -11.5, O/U 38

5 p.m. ET on FOX

Football finally made its return to the city of St. Louis, and the BattleHawks did not disappoint. They smashed the Guardians 29-9 in front of a jubilent home crowd, which looks to provide on of the best home-field advantages in the XFL. The win coupled with the Defenders’ loss moves the BattleHawks atop the XFL East.

The BattleHawks continue to do much of their damage on the ground. Last week Jordan Ta’amu only completed 12 passes while running backs Matt Jones and Christine Michael combined for nearly 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Don’t think Ta’amu can’t pass if called upon, though. The former Ole Miss quarterback is completing a league-high 75.6% of his passes.

Seattle, on the other hand, has struggled to get things going offensively. Many of their problems have come from the poor quarterback play of Brandon Silvers.

St. Louis is excited about football, and I won’t be surprised if the BattleHawks cover in front of their home crowd. 11.5 points is still a lot to give. Instead, I prefer Under 38 points. Seattle’s offense will have trouble scoring and the BattleHawks are a run-first team.

XFL Betting Pick: Under 38

XFL Week 4 Betting Picks for Sunday

Houston Roughnecks at Dallas Renegades +2.5, O/U 50

4 p.m. ET on FS1

Landry Jones has thrown for a lot of yards in his two games, but he hasn’t been particularly impressive. They’re also dealing with wtih an injury to their top pass-catcher, Donald Parham. The Renegades will struggle keep up with PJ Walker and the Roughnecks run-and-shoot offense.

XFL Betting Pick: Houston Roughnecks -2.5

DC Defenders at Tampa Bay Vipers +2.5 , O/U 44

7 p.m. ET on ESPN2

Looking for Cardale Jones and the DC Defenders to make a statement in a bounce-back game against Tampa Bay. The Vipers are starting Taylor Cornelius, who had some good drives in Week 3. I’m not a believer in the former Oklahoma State Cowboy, though. I think the Defenders dominate Sunday.

XFL Betting Pick: DC Defenders -2.5
