2023 Zozo Championship Weather Forecast and Projections

cameron-champ-800x480

We’re teeing off for the Zozo Championship this week in Japan, and there’s only one key timeframe when the winds are going to be an issue.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the time frame with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Zozo Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, October 19th

Not a bad day in general, and a really nice start with winds 5-10mph in the morning, peaking in the afternoon at 10mph sustained with gusts around 15mph.

Friday, October 20th

We pick up Friday morning where we left off Thursday afternoon, sustained winds 10mph early with stronger gusts. Those winds will continue building through the day, and by the afternoon, we’ll have strong winds around 20mph sustained with wind gusts well over 30mph.

Saturday, October 21st

Winds calm down by the weekend, 5-10mph all day.

Sunday, October 22nd

Closing it out on a high note, 5-10mph winds and dry weather.

Zozo Championship Weather Thoughts

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In the case of the Zozo Championship, there’s a clear “worst timeframe” that we should try to avoid. Winds peaking Friday afternoon sustained at 20mph with gusts over 30mph will be a major issue for those still on the course. I think it would be wise to consider targeting Thurs PM / Fri AM golfers for both sports betting and DFS purposes. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
