Game Theory and Public Opinion

When I was preparing this course I asked this question to my friend Jordan, one of the most successful poker players that I know:

“If your poker self could tell your DFS self one thing what would it be?”

Jordan’s answer was simple:

“You need to actually watch sports to be good at DFS.”

This answer surprised me, and may or may not be true, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Twitter is stuck in an ongoing debate between stats guys and film watchers. Whatever side you’re on in this debate doesn’t matter. The point is that poker players transitioning from the number crunching, game optimal approach of poker to DFS should make it a point to watch the games. This is the main reason I strictly play NFL. It’s the only sport I watch consistently.

Although a daily fantasy player can theoretically succeed without ever watching one game, there is an edge to be had from actually seeing what happened that an algorithm can’t tell you. Jordan gave me this example:
