Pitching Selection

Big Idea: Choosing the correct pitcher(s) is the most vital aspect of cash games.

Always start with your pitcher and make sure that you have the best pitcher that night. So much of DFS is about finding value and being price sensitive, but SP in baseball is a different story for cash games. A lot of players will ask how much should they spend on pitchers each night and that is not the best way to approach constructing a MLB cash-game lineup. You simply want to choose the best pitcher that night or, at a minimum, a top-three starter for that particular night.

Pitchers have the most control over their outcomes. They hold the ball in their hand to start every action on the field. The hitter is reacting to what the pitcher is doing. They also score the most points and it’s not particularly close. So it is vitally important that you get your pitcher correct. This is even more important on a site like FanDuel where you only roster one SP. DraftKings is a different animal, because you roster two SP’s, but they are still extremely important. I am going to layout some very simple metrics that you can quickly look at to get a feel for the top pitchers each night. I will also provide advanced metrics to look at, if you have the time, that are going to give you a leg up on the competition.
