Patrick Maroon Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

This winger's struggles have been overblown.

Vladimir Tarasenko has been talked about a lot as a struggling player this season. However, his 2 points in 13 December games are the reason that his totals are really down. He has had a bad month, with October, November and January totals being 29 points in 34 games. His goal and point totals down overall, but without that slumping December he's on pace for similar numbers as the last few years. He's playing with Ryan O'Reilly who has put up 9 points in his last 7 games as well as Patrick Maroon on the other wing. The Blues visit Anaheim who have been saved by John Gibson this season. Gibson has been as good as it gets, but over the last month St. Louis has a league-best 56.63 CF% while the Ducks have a 19th-ranked 48.83 CF% which certainly gives the underrated Blues an advantage tonight.

The St. Louis Blues are in a fantastic road matchup.

The St. Louis Blues visit the Los Angeles Kings tonight and the Kings have been struggling in the new year. The Kings are allowing a 63.99 CA/60 since January first which is the second-worst in the NHL and their 43.82 CF% is the worst in the NHL over those three weeks. This sets up for a great opportunity for the Blues as they've had a 54.34 CF% (4th) and 57.47 CF/60 (11th) over the same time frame. We're going to look at a re-vamped top line with Ryan O'Reilly centering Patrick Maroon and Vladimir Tarasenko. This trio is all on the top power play unit which gives them elite upside as they play the entire game together.

This line should dominate possession from puck drop

The St. Louis Blues will host the Ottawa Senators tonight. Ottawa has been a team we have picked on all year. Although they only allowed one goal last night, I will be going back to the well tonight. Ottawa ranks fourth worst in CA/60 among road teams since the first of the year (62.95). The Blue’s line combinations remain a bit in limbo tonight as they are banged up with Perron missing tonight’s game and Steen listed as a game time decision. We will have to monitor this situation in pre game warm-ups, but I expect the Blue’s top line of Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan O’Reilly and Patrick Maroon to stay together. All three skaters remain together on the team’s top power-play unit along with Alex Pietrangelo.

Slumping Top Line In Prime Breakout Spot

Entering tonight's game dead last in goals per game, Edmonton's top line of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Patrick Maroon are due for a major breakout game. This trio has found instant chemistry this season, entering tonight's game generating the most scoring chances in the league this season. A matchup on the road against a formerly stingy Devils team may seem risky, but this team has surrendered the most shot attempts and scoring chances among available teams on tonight's slate. In what should be one of the highest scoring games of the night, look for Edmonton's top line to break through on the road and easily pay off their steep price tags.

More Moderately Priced Upside On The Wing

The Edmonton Oilers sit dead last in goals per game this year, but this number is very misleading, as advanced metrics show that the Oilers have actually been of the best offensive teams in the National Hockey League in 2017-18, ranking number one overall in CF/60 and SCF/60. So we can chalk this up to poor puck luck, and with the New York Islanders being a merely average to below average defensive team (ranking 16th in CA/60, 21st in SCA/60 and 20th GA/60), the Oilers are bound to have success tonight in Brooklyn. Connor McDavid is a one-man wrecking crew and linemate Patrick Maroon continues to reap the benefits. Flanking McDavid at both even strength and on the Oilers top power play unit, Maroon once again becomes one of the top point-per-dollar plays on the wing this evening.

This player has quietly had a very consistent start to his season.

Playing with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl has been commonplace for Patrick Marroon since the beginning of last season. They have been by far the most consistently used line by Todd McLellan at even strength and look to take advantage of a Penguins team that doesn't seem to be able to keep the puck of out their net this season. The Penguins are ranked 29th in the league, allowing 3.85 goals against per game, however the Oilers have been on the opposite end of the spectrum ranking dead last in the NHL with an abysmal 2.2 goals per game. Something has to give tonight, and I'm banking on the power house top line of the Oilers being the beneficiaries. All three have quietly had solid seasons: McDavid has five goals and 11 points in 10 games, Draisaitl — although he has missed some time with injury — has seven points in six games and finally, Maroon has points in eight of his 10 games. This line has been a consistent producer, but has yet to have a breakout game with multi-point games from them all. Tonight could be that night, although they will come with an inflated ownership.

This top line could be the highest scoring on the night.

It looks like the top line in Edmonton is going to be Connor McDavid with Patrick Maroon and Ryan Strome on his wings. This line certainly has a lot of upside and it will be interesting to see how Strome does playing with McDavid. Calgary really struggled to keep the puck out of the next last season, despite the solid top four defense on paper. One of these reasons was their insistence on taking penalties. Calgary was second in the NHL in penalties taken last season, but only had the 12th best penalty kill. The Oilers had a top five power play last season. While it is uncertain whether the three of these guys play on the top PP unit together as well, that doesn’t matter. They’ll see time on either PP1 or PP2. Their upside at even-strength is high and if they play together on the power play, they could end up as the highest scoring line on the slate.
