Quinn Cook Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Sacramento Kings waive Quinn Cook and Kent Bazemore.
Sacramento Kings waive Quinn Cook and Kent Bazemore.
Zero Doubt
While you can squabble with who the top high-priced play is on the slate, there's zero doubt that Quinn Cook is the best point-per-dollar option on Saturday night. Not only will the Warriors be without Stephen Curry, they'll also be without backup point guard Shaun Livingston which should mean plenty of court time for Cook, regardless of how close the game stays. Cook has been a serviceable fantasy producer when given minutes this season, averaging ~ 30 fantasy points per 36 minutes. That type of production is a steal for Cook's minimum price tag across the industry.
A Bounce-Back GPP Spot
Cook was admittedly not good last night, and Shaun Livingston's return cut into his minutes. Andre Iguodala also helped run the offense and played 33 minutes. However, the Warriors are generally cautious with both Livingston and Iguodala on the tail end of back-to-back sets, and this is a game they should win relatively easily. Even if we see garbage time, I would expect Cook to be the one on the floor, and this is a great matchup against a Hawks team that plays at the fastest pace in the NBA. Don't be discouraged after last night's dud, and hope that only serves to lower his ownership this evening.
Clear-Cut Top Value
We are still dealing with a small sample size with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green both off the floor, but there is plenty of opportunity for the Warriors tonight. Quinn Cook should start in place of Curry, especially with Shaun Livingston also out, and Cook carries a respectable 29% usage rate with those two players off the floor — in addition to his dirt cheap DFS price tag. He jumped right in with a 15/2/15 line over 19 minutes on Thursday, with much of that coming after Curry left due to his injury. Another piece of good news here is that we saw Cook get plenty of run in a similar situation in March and April last season. He averaged 35 minutes per game from March 9th through the end of the regular season, and he put up averages of 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists per game over that stretch. That gives him a nice baseline of around 25 fantasy points, which is solid production given his dirt cheap price tag on every site. I expected the sites to pro-actively price him up given Curry’s injury, but that did not happen. We need to take advantage of that with our cash game builds tonight.
Maintaining Relevance in the Backcourt
Kevin Durant and Draymond Green are both expected to return for the Warriors tonight, so we can eliminate the frontcourt value with this team. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the team is somewhat cautious with their minutes, especially with Durant. I will proceed with caution there. We still have some value in the backcourt with Curry and Thompson out, so going back to the well with Quinn Cook or Nick Young is still a viable option. Cook has been the only consistent option for this team of late, and the minutes should continue to be there. Yes, the price tag does seem a bit steep at this point, but he should still be able to make value given his guaranteed court time.
Not Getting A Lot Of Love
The Spurs are a tough defensive matchup for anyone, so the young point guard isn't getting any love against them today. Still, Cook has played 40 minutes in back-to-back games, and his price didn't increase enough to fade him in this tough matchup. I don't expect him to keep shooting 60%+ from the field, but even if you knock that percentage down, he's still going to out-perform his salary with these minutes. With everyone out again for the Warriors, don't be afraid to go back to Quinn Cook tonight.
Quinn Cook (hand), Jordan Bell (ankle), and David West (arm) available to play Friday
Cook and Bell have both officially been cleared to play and will suit up for Friday's game against the Sacramento Kings after previously being listed as probable on the Golden State Warriors' injury report with a right-hand contusion and a sprained right ankle, respectively, while David West will also be available off the bench for the first time in five games following his earlier probable designation on the injury report. The Warriors are without Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Patrick McCaw due to their respective ailments, so Nick Young will likely draw his second consecutive start at the shooting guard spot in place of Thompson, while Omri Casspi appears to be the leading candidate to start at small forward to keep Andre Iguodala in his accustomary sixth-man role. In Curry's absence, Quinn Cook figures to continue starting at point guard but is coming off of three straight disappointing fantasy performances despite logging at least 27 minutes of action in each start. There is almost no sample size with the Warriors big three off the court together, but Young appears to be the big winner from a usage standpoint, as he owns a massive +11.3% usage rate differential while also averaging 0.96 fantasy points per minute on DraftKings and 0.84 on FanDuel in 84.1 total minutes played in this scenario.
Quinn Cook will start Sunday, Andre Iguodala a game-time decision
Quinn Cook will start for the Warriors today versus Minnesota after being questionable with an hand injury. Cook, who has been starting for Curry has been getting the minutes, but hasn't been producing. For instance, last game he played 30 minutes, but finished under 10 FDP. He's only in consideration for GPPs today. Andre Iguodala has missed the last two games, and will be a game-time decision on Sunday.
Quinn Cook to start at PG for the Warriors on Friday
The offense is still going to run through Durant and Draymond, but Cook will get the start at PG. He may have actually been better off from a FPPM standpoint had he come off the bench given Iguodala's absence, as he may have had a shot to have the ball in his hands a bit more. Still, with the injuries starting to mount it's possible he sees 26-30 minutes which would give him a nice ceiling for DFS purposes. Durant is an elite play in all formats and Green is still too cheap on both major sites.
Shaun Livingston replaces Quinn Cook in the Warriors' starting lineup
Stephen Curry will remain sidelined for at least another week or two, and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has already made a change to his starting lineups for tonight's game against the Detroit Pistons, inserting Shaun Livingston at point guard in place of two-way contract player Quinn Cook, who put up a respectable performance in 22 minutes of action in Wednesday's win for his lone spot start thus far. Livingston himself saw just 15 minutes in the previous game and, even though he's starting, it shouldn't be expected that he suddenly sees starters minutes and will likely fall somewhere in the ballpark of 25 minutes, more or less. Even with the point guard change, Patrick McCaw is probably still the team's preferred starting point guard once he is able to return from his concussion and nose contusion. That said, the obvious beneficiary of Curry's absence is Kevin Durant, as he owns a +5.2% usage rate differential and also leads the Warriors with a 36.4% usage rate and averages 1.45 fantasy points per minute on DraftKings and 1.41 points on FanDuel with Curry off the court this season.
