What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – Pick ‘Em
Pitcher Grind Down
KC – Bruce Chen has great numbers on paper. On the season he owns a 2.04 ERA, but almost all of that work was out of the bullpen. It’s a much different story when you make the start. The Orioles are a tough offense that is stacked from top to bottom. Avoid
BAL – Jason Hammel has not had the season that he would like to have had. He has a 5.24 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. I don’t love the Royals offense, but the problem with taking pitchers against them is that they don’t like to strikeout. They lead the league in not striking out. I think Hammel has value on multiple pitcher sites if he is dirt cheap, but don’t overspend. In Play
Batter Grind Down
KC – Hammel is giving up an OPS of .855 to left hand bats so a guy like Alex Gordon could be in a good position tonight. The best part about Gordon is that his price has been dropping across the board so you can really get him for a good price.
BAL – When the Orioles face a lefty, one name should immediately jump out at you. Matt Wieters has great power against lefties and has 7 hits over his last 3 games. Wieters owns a .786 OPS against lefties so target him at the catcher position.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – DET -125
Pitcher Grind Down
CWS – Hector Santiago does not get any love from Vegas or from the daily fantasy experts. Why? Because he is Hector Santiago and he plays for the White Sox. Santiago has good numbers, but a general rule of thumb is to stay away from pitchers against the Tigers. I will be applying that rule tonight. Avoid
DET – Rick Porecello is a lot like Phil Hughes in that he can have a great game one night and then turn around and have an awful performance the next. I like the matchup against the White Sox, but he has given up at least 3 earned runs in 4 of his last 5 starts and the White Sox have been hitting the ball much better lately. In Play
Batter Grind Down
CWS – Porcello gives up a .301 average to lefties so if you are going to take a White Sox player, I would recommend taking De Aza, Dunn, or Gillaspie. They all look like they are in a good spot against Porcello.
DET – Miggy will likely be out of the lineup tonight so expect V-Mart and Peralta to be bumped up a spot in the lineup. Peralta is batting .330 against lefties this season and may not have many games left with that possible suspension coming up.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – MIL -120
Pitcher Grind Down
MIL – There are so many below average pitchers tonight, it’s crazy! Donovan Hand isn’t what you are looking for in a starting pitcher. Low upside with a good chance to go in the negative. Avoid
SD – Tyson Ross is the same way. ERA close to 5 on the road and he has been pitching out of the bullpen so he may not last very long tonight. Avoid
Batter Grind Down
MIL – With these two pitchers going, I would be surprised if the over wasn’t hit tonight. The Brewers are without Braun and Ramirez, but they still have Segura, Lucroy, and the ever cheap Rickie Weeks. I think the Brewers should put up over 5 runs tonight so there is value galore on this lineup.
SD – The Padres are also in a good spot against Mr. Hand. The problem is choosing which Padres bats to take. Chase Headley is a good cheap option at 3B, he has 5 hits over his last 4 games and this is a hitter-friendly park. Everth Cabrera should provide good value as well.

What Vegas Says

HOU – Battle of the Jarred’s tonight to determine which spelling is better. Jarred Cosart looked great in his first major league start throwing 8 scoreless innings with 2 K’s. I don’t know anything about this kid though and these A’s are a tough, scrappy bunch. If Cosart’s price is near the bottom, he is definitely worth a shot, but don’t overpay for him. In Play
OAK – Jarrod Parker will get my first “TARGET” of the day. And it only took us like what 8 games of analysis to get there. The Astros are not a very good hitting team against right hand pitching and strike out more than any team in the league. Throw that in with Parker’s ERA under 2.50 over the last two months and we have ourselves a great matchup. Target
Batter Grind Down
HOU – I really think Parker shows up big and pitches a great game tonight. As a team, they bat .228 against righties which is just awful.
OAK – It depends which way you want to go in this one. If you are siding with the rookie pitcher, then you may want to stay away from the A’s. My opinion is that the A’s are in play if the price is right. Crisp, Donaldson, Lowrie, and Jaso. But only if the price is right.

PHI vs R | PHI BvP | STL vs R | STL BvP | ||||||
What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.0
- Favored Team – STL -210
Pitcher Grind Down
STL – At first glance, Shelby Miller looks like a great option tonight against the Phillies. He has a 1.93 ERA at home and is a huge favorite. But I think expectations should be tempered a bit. He hasn’t pitched more than 6 innings in 7 straight starts and has given up 14 earned runs in his last 4 games. I still think he is in play, but I think there are better options for his price. In Play
PHI – Jonathan Pettibone has churned out 3 solid starts in a row, but two of those were at home. His struggles have been on the road. He has a 5.65 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP on the road this season and has to face one of the toughest lineups in baseball. Avoid
Batter Grind Down
STL – Pettibone is giving up an OPS of .833 against lefties this season. Carpenter, Beltran, and Adams all look like juicy plays.
PHI – The Phillies are a pretty decent team against right hand pitching. They have a .262 average with an OPS of .719. Like I said, I think they make it tough on Miller, but they aren’t exactly great options if that makes sense.
