Pitcher Grind Down
- Nathan Eovaldi – If you look at Eovaldi’s numbers on the season, he really hasn’t been a bad pitcher. He has a 3.80 ERA and a K rate of 6.5 per 9 innings. Those are very respectable numbers. However, he plays on the Marlins so he rarely gets enough run support and you need a win from your pitcher. Starter Rating = 4
- Zach Miner – Miner is a 31 year old relief pitcher making a spot start for the Phillies. Even though he has a decent matchup, I don’t think he will pitch very deep into this one. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
MIA – Miner is making a spot start, so this could be an opportunity to get a couple Marlins in your lineup. Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton both look like solid plays against the righty.
PHI – Eovaldi’s splits don’t really favor left or right hand hitters, but I do like the matchup for Chase Utley. He has been on fire in this series and is still very affordable on most sites.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Phil Hughes – Hughes is just not a recommended fantasy option at this point. There is a reason that he was demoted to the bullpen a couple weeks ago. Starter Rating = 3
- J.A. Happ – Happ is another one of those inconsistent pitchers that you never know what to expect from. He has an ERA close to 5.00 on the season and is facing a Yankees team that has actually been pretty good against lefties since acquiring Soriano. I think this will be a high scoring game. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
NYY – The Yankees really need to string together some wins if they are going to have any shot at the Wild Card. I think they have a big night offensively against Happ. Alfonso Soriano and Alex Rodriguez are my two favorites here.
TOR – Jose Reyes, Adam Lind, and Brett Lawrie all hit right hand pitching well and Hughes just hasn’t been very good. Also, keep your eye on Moises Sierra as a value play, he is batting in the middle of that order and is 6/11 off of Hughes.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Matt Cain – Cain has been unlucky all season long. His WHIP and strikeout numbers are very similar to last year yet he has given up a lot more runs. I think the luck turns around for him tonight against the Mets. That pitcher friendly ballpark should work to his benefit. Starter Rating = 8
- Aaron Harang – If you ever decide to roll out Aaron Harang as your starting pitcher, you certainly won’t be able to feel confident about it. He has a 5.70 ERA on the season and faces a Giants offense that is batting over .300 in their last 7 games. Starter Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
SF – The Giants offense has been hot over the last week, especially one bat in particular. Hunter Pence now has 5 HR’s in his last 5 games. I think that will cool off a little bit in Citi Field, but they do have a nice matchup.
NYM – The Mets offense is terrible at home. They also have a bad matchup against Matt Cain. This is an easy one to avoid.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Derek Holland – Holland is coming off of 3 bad starts in a row, all of which he got stuck with the loss. While that means his price has come down a bit, the Rays are one of the best teams in baseball against left hand pitching. Starter Rating = 4
- Chris Archer – Archer is a pitcher that I love to take at home. He has a 2.67 ERA at home and has a pretty decent K rate. While the matchup against the Rangers is tough, he should be able to pitch well enough to pick up the win. Starter Rating = 6
Batter Grind Down
TEX – I’m not too high on the Rangers bats tonight. They are the underdogs in what should be a low scoring game.
TB – Evan Longoria and Wil Myers are two guys that have been swinging a hot bat. They are also two guys that hit lefties well. I think Holland continues to struggle.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Wei-Yin Chen – I’m not a fan of taking pitchers against the Red Sox and I’m guessing that most Grinders aren’t either. Chen has an average ERA, average K rate, and a below average matchup. Starter Rating = 2
- Jake Peavy – Peavy has really pitched well for the Red Sox but draws a tough matchup against the Orioles tonight. They have some powerful hitters that could turn a good start into a bad one with only one swing of the bat. I think Peavy could get the win, but that will likely come with a few earned runs. Starter Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
BAL – At this point, Chris Davis is in play anytime he faces a right hand pitcher in a hitter friendly park. Even when it looks like he flies out, the ball just keeps carrying. I like him tonight against Peavy.
BOS – The Red Sox are a nice stacking option tonight. Chen has really struggled with the Sox this year with an ERA close to 10.0 against them. I really like Dustin Pedroia leading off, but all Sox are in play.
