We’re teeing off for the AT&T Byron Nelson this week, and the scattered storms and accompanying gusty winds are likely to pose some problems.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

AT&T Byron Nelson Weather Report & Forecast

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, May 11th

Calm winds early morning (0-5mph), light winds by the late morning 5-10mph. In the afternoon, winds pick up a touch, 10-15mph sustained, with a chance of a few showers.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, May 12th

Breezy all day, with sustained winds 10-15mph and gusts over 20. Rain chances peak in the afternoon, and any waves of rain could also bring stronger wind gusts.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, May 13th

Likely the ugliest day rain-wise, we’re looking at fairly widespread showers and storms with 10-15mph winds.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, May 14th

We should start to see things quieting down a bit by Sunday, as we slowly dry out and drop winds back to around 5-10mph sustained.

AT&T Byron Nelson Weather Forecast

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. For this tournament, the wind is lightest early Thursday and late Sunday. Trying to avoid the peak wind is going to be tough, as it will come and go with rain showers and storms (which could cause a delay and throw off the timing of everything). I think finding a specific edge is tough this week, but would say there’s nothing wrong with taking the free square Thursday morning and crossing your fingers that Friday afternoon is manageable.
