MLB Player Props Today

Domingo German u4.5 strikeouts (-132), FanDuel

Consistent with last season, the Cleveland Guardians are making contact at a high rate. In 418 plate appearances to begin the new year, Cleveland ranks seventh in strikeout percentage and eighth in contact percentage. Cleveland’s main Achilles heel has been an early season propensity to swing at too many pitches outside of the strike zone. However, this is unlikely to be a massive concern this evening against Domingo German, who ranked in only the 64th percentile in chase rate in 2022. Bettors are advised to wait until after umpires are announced for this contest, but the under appears to be worth strong consideration as of this writing.

Nick Pivetta u5.5 strikeouts (-150), BetMGM

This past winter, the Tampa Bay Rays made a significant change in philosophy as an organization, emphasizing good swing decisions at the plate rather than swinging for maximum exit velocity on a regular basis. Through nine games, the Rays have swung at the sixth-fewest pitches outside of the zone of any team in the league. Tampa Bay also ranks 12th in contact percentage on pitches inside the strike zone – meaning they are laying off bad pitches and eagerly pouncing on good ones. The Rays have also taken the sixth-fewest called strikes of any team in baseball so far this season. Overall, their approach at the plate has been much improved. According to props.cash, Nick Pivetta only recorded six strikeouts in 12 of his 33 starts last season. Take the under in this spot.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Bryce Elder more than 5.0 pitcher strikeouts, PrizePicks

Dating back to last August, Bryce Elder has recorded at least five strikeouts in six consecutive starts. He is averaging more than one strikeout per inning pitched in that span. The primary adjustment appears to be an increase in sinker usage against both right- and left-handed batters, with more of his changeup against lefties when he gets to two strikes. Tonight, he gets a favorable matchup against the Cincinnati Reds, which rank 23rd in strikeout percentage out of 30 teams to begin the new season. Expect Elder to have another strong performance on Monday.
