Big Events Breakdown Week 15: Recapping the DFFC and PFFC

rg homepage bigevents breakdown medium

In the last two weekends, two people have become millionaires after just a few hours of football, which says a lot about the state of daily fantasy sports as a whole. Sunday will make it three straight, with DraftKings holding it’s Fantasy Millionaire Finals this week. StarStreet’s final made one of our own $100,000 richer, congratulations to Shanksalot for taking down first place in the PFFC, and several of our members made big splashes in the DFFC. There are still plenty of major events left on the table; qualifiers are still running for DraftKings FMGF, FanDuel’s King of the Gridiron is waiting in the wings, and FanThrowdown is also running a 500K final. More on those next week, but for now let’s check out the big winners of Week 15… Just a reminder that all of our members will have their names bolded.

After 14 weeks of qualifying, the DFFC Final took place this past Sunday. Everyone (except the winner) gathered at the Palazzo in Las Vegas to take in the early and late-afternoon games, with $2,500,000 up for grabs. Msidla was the RG top dog, finishing in second place and taking home a quarter of a million dollars, an absurd amount of money to win after just a few hours of football. He hit on the Philly combination of Nick Foles and DeSean Jackson, as well as Jamaal Charles, Jordan Todman, DeMarco Murray and Ryan Tannehill, all of whom outperformed their price. Msidla made a big jump in the TPOY rankings with this finish, catapulting himself up to 11th.

WingsFan880 was the last of the six-figure winners, and he didn’t start making his way up the leaderboard until the second wave of games was underway. DeAngelo Williams, Kendall Wright, Jamaal Charles and DeMarco Murray pushed him way up in the standings after a disappointing start. WingsFan also made a huge jump in the TPOY standings, climbing into the top 100 (96th). Tipandpick had two entries in the final, and his best landed him in fourth place. His two lineups were very different (his other entry put him in 8th place), but he had guys like Nick Foles, J-Mail, Jordan Todman, Greg Jennings, Matt Cassel and Pierre Garcon sprinkled in-between his teams. Had Chris Ogbonnaya put up a decent performance, tipandpick could have ended up as high as 2nd place, but two top-ten entries is definitely something to be proud of.

Our very own RotoGrindersCal had a busy weekend, competing in both live finals, and put together a fifth place finish here. A late touchdown from Eddie Lacy sprang him up into the top-five, where he would remain at the end of the day. Cal (30th in the TPOY rankings, 45th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard) was the only member of the DFFC to roster Danny Amendola, who racked up 18.1 points for just under 8K. CB35 struck gold with his Vikings stack (Cassel, Jennings and Patterson), which accounted for over 70 points for about 24K. Charles, Tannehill and DeMarco also exceeded value for him on Sunday, and CB is now 66th in the TPOY rankings and 67th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard. MrTuttle05 (5th in the TPOY rankings, 6th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard) has been absolutely killing it this NFL season, winning a spot in all three live final events (he finished 21st in the FFFC, 2nd in the PFFC). Tuttle finished 12th in this one, and did so with huge games from Cassel, Flynn, Charles and Dez Bryant. Ehafner was less than a point behind in 13th, and our #2 overall Grinder also now sits in 5th place on the NFL Grinder leaderboard. Maxdalury (10th overall, 12th in TPOY) finished 14th, followed by jae686 (32nd on the NFL Grinder leaderboard) to round out the top fifteen. Expert picks writer and GrindersLive co-host stlcardinals84 finished 17th, followed by last year’s RotoGrinders Player of the Year dp47 in 19th (and another ehafner entry) to finish off the top half of the tournament. Here’s the lineup which won the DFFC, which outperformed 2nd place by almost 37 points:

Congratulations to shanksalot for winning the 2013 PFFC, it’s definitely not a weekend he (or anyone else who attended) will forget anytime soon. The Playboy Mansion has to be one of the best venues for an event like this, and from all indications StarStreet handled this weekend perfectly. Shanks has climbed up to 8th in the TPOY rankings, and he’s got a shot to take down the award with a big finish in DraftKings final this week. He absolutely blew the field away, topping second place by over 65 points! His winning lineup is shown below. MrTuttle05 kept his big weekend going, finishing second here and taking home another $40,000. He was the only member of the field with the stones to roll out Matt Flynn, who ended up throwing for 300 yards and 4 TD’s against the Cowboys. Radthad954 finished third, and was part of the 10% of the field that played Greg Jennings.

Steven Jackson and Ryan Tannehill were also nice against-the-grain plays that worked out. SyracuseSlappers (aka SyrSlappers) finished sixth with big games from Foles, Charles and Julian Edelman. Westy was a fraction of a point behind in seventh, and moved up to 18th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard after this finish. He received almost 70 points from his Foles to Jackson combination. Hatorade rings in with a ninth place finish, and now sits in 23rd in the TPOY rankings and 26th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard. Headchopper rounds out the top ten, and he now sits in 7th in the TPOY rankings and 19th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard. Chop has a chance to take down the TPOY award if he can turn one of his many FMGF entries into a top finish.

Hoochy_24_82 (KillaB) finished 11th, and our #2 overall ranked NFL Grinder will also have a fair share of action in the FMGF. Makisupa finished 12th with an aggressive Vikings stack, and could have fared better if not for a big dud from Andre Johnson. Whiskeytavon4 (30th in the overall rankings and on the NFL Grinder leaderboard) finished 14th, and PrimeTime420 (who recently jumped into 1st place in the TPOY rankings) rounds out the top fifteen. Here is the winning PFFC lineup:

DraftDay’s $11 Bracket Blitz

One more shout out to Phyzz_Staxx for his dominance in the $11 Bracket Blitz, as he became the champion this weekend after beating himself… That’s right, he ended up finishing in both first and second place without having to do any real research in Week 15. Phyzz_Staxx, who most of you probably know as kgeorge, now sits in 20th on our NFL Grinder leaderboard and has worked his way up to 19th on our Monthly Grinder leaderboard. It’s sad to see the Bracket Blitz come to an end, but it seemed to be a success so hopefully we’ll see even more tournaments like these in the future, hopefully for the NBA and MLB as well.
