Big Events Week 16: The Week of Smizz
In the last big week of fantasy football, DraftKings held their Fantasy Millionaire Grand Final, and it was a huge success. While it didn’t fill completely, it came damn close and the guys over at DK seemed to be extremely happy with how the event turned out. The winner wasn’t determined until the final minutes of Monday Night football, and one of our own was battling for the million dollar first prize. The first and second place finishers actually watched the game at the same bar, and DraftKings filmed the two competitors and their friends while they sweated out the Atlanta/San Francisco game.
FanDuel ran their King of the Gridiron tournament this weekend, which sent the winner home with $150,000 and a Super Bowl trip for six. FanThrowdown also had their hand in the action, running a 500K Football Championship which a number of our members fared very well in. We’re sadly down to the last week of the NFL regular season, but for now let’s check out our big Week 16 winners…

It came down to the wire, but Al_Smizzle finished less than a point out of first place, but still took home $350,000! As the Monday night game played out, it became bundafever vs. Smizzle, which equated to Frank Gore vs. Michael Crabtree. Smizz actually had the lead for part of the night, but was overtaken when Frank Gore plunged in for a short touchdown, and that proved to be enough for bundafever to claim the crown. The second place finish allowed Smizzle to climb all the way to the top of the TPOY leaderboard, and he certainly earned it as one of the premier players on the planet, but he still has to hold off the competition for another week if he wants the throne. He’s also one of our co-host’s on GrindersLive, and is sitting in 16th in the overall rankings. Mattness (aka msidla) finished fourth in the tournament, which also puts him in 4th place in our TPOY rankings. He managed two top-ten finishes by rolling out the likes of Andy Dalton, A.J. Green, DeMarco Murray, and LeSean McCoy. Msidla is our 22nd ranked NFL Grinder and is currently 56th in the overall rankings. Gateman07 finished a fraction of a point behind in fifth, and did so with the Peyton Manning to Eric Decker combo, and also played Pierre Garcon and LeSean McCoy who both went for over 34 points. Gateman is 28th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard and 42nd in the overall rankings. Eritas2 (151st in the TPOY rankings) finished ninth, and was part of the 2.3% of the field that played the Patriots defense, the top scoring D/ST of the weekend. Jockpostdt rounds out the top ten, and now sits in 175th in the TPOY rankings. CSURAM88, who resides in the top-ten of nearly all of our leaderboards, registered two top-twenty finishes (13th and 17th), which brought back a pretty nice return. TwoGun, who also had a big week elsewhere in the industry, finished 14th, followed by a few entries from maxdalury (11th overall, 12th in TPOY).

Al_Smizzle was once again our top finisher in this event (tied for 6th place), and the Andy Dalton to A.J. Green connection once again put him in a great position. He also stayed with the same core lineup as he rolled out in the DK Final, consisting of McCoy, Crabtree and Ryan Griffin along with the Cincinnati duo. Emge was second among RG members with a 12th place finish, and he crept up to 31st in the TPOY rankings following Week 16. He’s also a Daily Plays writer for RG and is 61st in the overall rankings. Tommyg1979 was our only other member in the top-twenty, and cashed thanks to big games from Shady McCoy, Eric Decker and DeMarco Murray. Tommy is now 47th in the TPOY rankings and sits in 230th in the overall rankings.

Congratulations to TwoGun on following up his nice performance in the DK Final with a first place finish in the FanThrowdown Football Championship. He had the QB/WR combo of the weekend in Andy Dalton and A.J. Green, and also struck gold with Pierre Garcon and DeMarco Murray, along with the Bills defense. TwoGun is our 21st ranked Tournament Player of the Year and also sits in 16th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard. In second place was Kcannon (52nd in the TPOY rankings, 25th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard), who rostered the other big QB/WR combo of the weekend in Peyton Manning and Eric Decker. Condia finished in both fourth and eleventh, and our top ranked overall Grinder just keeps on rolling. He also sits in first in both the NFL and NBA Grinder leaderboards. Rikkidee finished fifth, followed by our very own RotoGrindersCal in sixth, continuing his impressive run in the final events. Cal has also fared well in the PFFC and DFFC in the last few weeks, pushing him up to 15th on the TPOY leaderboard. Mirage88 has flown up the leaderboards in his limited time as an RG member, and he’s been a weekly force in NFL action across the industry. With a seventh place finish in this one, Mirage is now 39th on the TPOY leaderboard and is 25th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard. Leonsandcastl (aka WhiskeyTavon4, 30th in the overall rankings, 31st on the NFL Grinder leaderboard) rounds out the top-ten.

Whits23 finished third in the Bomb with an extremely well-rounded lineup, featuring Dalton, Murray, Decker, Green, Orange Julius, Nick Novak and the Bengals D/ST. If you want to have success in a big tournament like this with smaller roster requirements, you pretty much have to hit on all of your selections, and Whits came damn close. He’s our 40th ranked overall Grinder and he sits in 59th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard, and he was our only finisher in the top-ten this week.
