2023 BMW Championship Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for the BMW Championship this week outside of Chicago, IL, and it looks like we’ve got one ugly day to concentrate on.

See if you can use this weather forecast to help you out when you use our Vivid Picks promo code to get up to a $100 bonus with your first deposit.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the time frame with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

BMW Championship Weather Report & Forecast

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, August 17th

The worst of the weather comes early Thursday, maybe even before golfers have started to tee off. A thin but potent line of storms should zip through in the early morning, potentially causing a delay depending on the exact timing. Winds both ahead and behind that line should be ripping, sustained around 15mph, but with wind gusts between 30-35mph all morning. By the afternoon, the sustained winds will still be in a similar range, but the gusts should be down to a more manageable 20-25mph.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, August 18th

As ugly as day 1 is, day 2 is the exact opposite; light winds and dry weather, perfect stuff all day long.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, August 19th

A typical weather pattern here, winds 5-10mph to start, increasing to close to 15mph by the afternoon with stronger gusts.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, August 20th

We’ll close things out with the typical “lighter AM winds, slightly gustier afternoon winds” pattern, very similar to Saturday.

BMW Championship Weather Forecast

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In the case of The BMW Championship, I think the clear time to avoid for sports betting and DFS purposes is Thursday morning. That doesn’t mean Thursday afternoon is a cake walk. It’s still windy, but the less gusty weather in the afternoon would be preferred, especially since Friday the weather looks great all day regardless, so there’s no downside in picking the better draw Thursday.
