It’s only the second round, but it might be the most anticipated and competitive series of the NBA Playoffs when all is said and done. The Brooklyn Nets looked unstoppable against the Celtics, as did the Milwaukee Bucks against the Heat. Now the two team are set to clash as they vie for their spot in the Eastern Conference Finals. Here’s a preview of the Nets vs. Bucks — check back for updated series odds, matchup, betting picks, and predictions throughout the NBA Playoffs.
Bucks vs. Nets Series Preview
The Nets are -200 favorites to advance past the Bucks after they began the playoffs by knocking out the Celtics in five games. The series will pit the two highest-scoring offenses in the NBA against each other, as the Bucks and Nets combine for 238.7 regular-season points per game. Where does this series’ offensive prowess stand in NBA history? It’s tied for the most combined regular-season average between two playoff opponents in the last 50 years.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP, is remarkable, no doubt. And in Khris Middleton, a two-time All-Star, and Jrue Holiday, a two-time NBA All-Defensive player, Giannis has an underrated supporting cast. But can Milwaukee’s Big 3 slow down Brooklyn’s three-headed monster? I doubt it.
During their 141-125 victory in Game 4—yes, that’s 141 points without overtime— James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving combined for 104 points. The performance is tied for the most points by a trio in NBA playoff history. In all, they scored or assisted on 88.2% of the Nets’ points in Round 1.
The scary thing is they’re just getting started.
After all, Harden, Durant and Irving have only played together in 13 games (playoff included) this season. Scary indeed.
And when it’s not one of Brooklyn’s Big 3 scoring, it’s usually Joe Harris, who just so happens to be the best three-point shooter in the league. Have I already said scary?
Harris led NBA, making 47.5% of his three-point attempts from beyond the arc. Harris nearly led the Nets in points during Game 2, when he made 7-for-10 3’s en route to scoring 25 points (Durant scored 26). The Nets also get significant contribution from Blake Griffin, who averaged 11 ppg. during the regular season. With Harden, Durant, and Irving all on the court now, Griffin’s usage has declined, but he’s still fully capable of stepping up if needed.
So, yeah, this team is ridiculous.
It’s not exactly a hot take, I know, but we’re here to win money. The Nets have as much talent as we’ve seen on one basketball team, but their regular-season record is deflated because, as stated earlier, their Big 3 rarely played with each other. Because of that, I think it’s more likely that the Nets (-200), with home-court advantage, are undervalued than the Bucks (+165). We’re also getting the best price by betting on the Nets at BetMGM. Their series price is as steep as -233 at other sportsbooks.
