Happy Thursday, Grinders! Unlike our previous article featuring a solid Monday Night Football matchup, Thursday Night Football reverts back to a potential snoozefest. The Denver Broncos welcome the disappointing Indianapolis Colts minus their star running back, Jonathan Taylor. When we are given a dismal offering, we must give ourselves a reason to watch. Same game parlay time! Let’s preview the game and build a ticket to sweat for tonight’s game.

Colts vs. Broncos Same Game Parlay Preview

FanDuel Sportsbook pegs the Broncos as 3.5-point favorites with the juice going the Colts way. Throughout the short week, the spread has ping-ponged between 3 and 3.5 points as 68% of the money has sided with the Broncos. The total rests at 42.5 points with a -114 tag on the under. 89% of money bet has come in on the under since opening.

The Broncos will be without Javonte Williams, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury last week. Melvin Gordon leads the backfield, with very little threat behind him to take work despite his fumbling woes. On the Colts’ side of the ball, Jonathan Taylor will miss the week with a high-ankle sprain. Shaquille Leonard will also be out after suffering a concussion against the Titans in Week 4. Leonard will be a big loss for an Indianapolis Colts’ defense that has been pretty stout against the run (3.1 yards per attempt). Tyquan Lewis will also miss the contest.

This game screams Broncos at home after a division loss against the Raiders. Even after a surprise victory against the Chiefs, the Colts look like a mess to avoid with key pieces missing on both sides of the ball. Matt Ryan looks pretty old in a Colts uniform. With all of that said, the Broncos continue to struggle to put points on the board. Could the Colts surprise again on the road?

Broncos Moneyline

To answer my previous question: could the Colts surprise again on the road? No. They can’t and won’t. While I do like the spread bet as well, using the moneyline as a leg in my parlay insures it will hit even if the Colts are only able to just somehow keep this game close. Coach Nathaniel Hackett has not inspired us thus far, and Russell Wilson continues to struggle to find his footing in his new digs.

With all of that said, I think this is a tough ask for Indianapolis on a short week. The Broncos can get by with Melvin Gordon and a defense that is keeping opponents in check. The Colts are dead least in points per game. I don’t imagine that will improve this week. Give me the Broncos.

Melvin Gordon Over 11.5 Receiving Yards

Gordon should take on the largest workload with Javonte Williams sidelined. The Colts defense is stout against the run, and I don’t want to assume that the loss of Shaq Leonard is going to transform the defense. Instead, I want to take advantage of a much more attainable number with Gordon’s receiving prop.

If the Broncos struggle to move the ball on the ground, I can believe in Gordon as a safety net for Russ. Gordon has been a dual threat over the course of his career even if to a lesser extent this season. The simulations like this number a bit more than the rushing prop. So, again, I will side with our simulations for this leg.

Melvin Gordon Anytime Touchdown

I am normally a bit hesitant to include a touchdown leg in our parlay, but the boost to odds feels pretty strong in an otherwise tough game to project. The Broncos only pass the ball on 57.89% of plays. Will we see a boost tonight? Will Hackett roll out the same game plan with Mike Boone taking on some of Williams’ role?

With the uncertainty, for me, on how to build this script for receivers, I think a touchdown is worth a gamble tonight. Gordon does feel like the most likely touchdown bet on my winning side, so we are just going to hitch tonight’s wagon to MGIII. Without Williams available, a vintage Gordon fumble feels less likely to disrupt his workload.

Mo Alie-Cox Over 20.5 Receiving Yards

Finally, for our only Colts leg, I want to go over to work against my moneyline leg. With that said, yuck…

The Colts are rife with non-spectacular receiving options to choose from. Mo Alie-Cox exploded for a big game against the Titans last week, as the Colts played from behind throughout the game. I anticipate we could be looking at a similar script for tonight’s game.

The Broncos have a 7.86% sack rate this season. Matt Ryan without any mobility will need to get rid of the ball quickly. Besides Nyheim Hines, I could see tight ends seeing a lot of action this evening. The Broncos have allowed 21 receptions to the TE position thus far for a total of 188 yards. The 8.9 yards per catch means we need three catches.

With so much uncertainty around the offense without Taylor, I am going to stick with a tight end and hope that Alie-Cox receives a bunch of dump-off passes from Ryan.

Meanwhile, FanDuel Sportsbook offers better than a 33% boost to our simulated parlay.

This game is an ugly game to think about, project, and bet on. I imagine it will be equally as ugly to watch. If the game ends up surprising us and becoming a shootout (doubtful), our ticket probably looks even better. Good luck, tonight!
