Daily Batter Breakdown: Mon, Aug 4th

Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.

There’s really one game that I think is going to be highly targeted, and that game has the 2 worst pitchers pitching tonight in a hitter’s park. On a short slate, it might be a night to go contrarian and fade that game completely as I bet that a few of the guys from the Rangers/White Sox game will be highly owned everywhere.

0.925 0.000 $3,400 $43,700 $4,900 $5,750 $0

Alex Avila

Avila is definitely going to be cheap tonight and you will need some bargains to fit in to fit some of the better pitchers. He’s always a boom or bust option but I’m looking for him to boom tonight against McCarthy in Yankee Stadium. He should be able to take advantage of the short porch in right against a sub-par righty who has allowed almost a .800 OPS to righties this year. Avila hits right handers much better and should provide value at the catcher position.

jose-abreu-100x75 Jose Abreu
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.993 0.000 $5,500 $79,000 $10,600 $13,750 $0

Jose Abreu

Abreu has to be the top option on the board today. On a short slate, he plays in the highest over/under game today and faces arguably the worst pitcher on the hill in Martinez. Abreu loves hitting against right handed pitching and hits the most HR off of them and Martinez gives up a decent amount of HR to RHB.

anthony-rendon-100x75 Anthony Rendon
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.268 0.787 3.50% 0.344
Last 7 Days Splits 0.310 0.911 3.45% 0.401
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Gausman – RIGHT 0.250 0.608 1.80% 0.277
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.018 0.000 $4,600 $96,100 $8,500 $10,050 $0

Anthony Rendon

Rendon is the most expensive 2nd baseman on a lot of sites, but I still like him tonight against potentially the 3rd worst starting pitcher on the hill. I cannot see him being highly owned at all due to the right/right splits where Gausman is better against righties than lefties. Rendon however has one of the highest upsides on the board and if you can find a way to fit him in, he makes a solid contrarian play.

adrian-beltre-100x75 Adrian Beltre
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.319 0.877 4.51% 0.381
Last 7 Days Splits 0.364 1.031 4.55% 0.449
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Noesi – RIGHT 0.328 0.894 2.71% 0.391
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.993 0.000 $4,600 $85,900 $8,300 $10,000 $0

Adrian Beltre

On a short slate tonight with a LOT of good pitchers going there really isn’t a lot of places to go at 3rd. Beltre loves to hit against right handed pitching and tonight he gets to face Noesi who isn’t very good and has almost a 1.5 WHIP on the season. Noesi has given up a .893 OPS to right handed batters and Beltre should be in a great spot tonight.

alexei-ramirez-100x75 Alexei Ramirez
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.290 0.754 2.78% 0.332
Last 7 Days Splits 0.296 0.804 3.70% 0.34

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.993 0.000 $4,500 $100,500 $8,000 $9,500 $0

Alexei Ramirez

Nick Martinez might be worse against LHP but his .776 OPS and 6 HR allowed against RHB is not that great either. The huge over/under, the fact that Ramirez has been very hot in the last month and how Ramirez loves to hit against RHP are all reasons why I am going to be targeting him today. It also helps he is going to be on the highest projected scoring team.

alex-rios-100x75 Alex Rios
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.279 0.673 0.63% 0.296
Last 7 Days Splits 0.304 0.708 0.00% 0.322
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Noesi – RIGHT 0.328 0.894 2.71% 0.391
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.993 0.000 $4,200 $57,600 $6,100 $8,550 $0

Alex Rios

I really wanted to go with Choo tonight but Choo has been a complete disappointment. Rios is a much better candidate to do well tonight in my mind as he has been hitting higher in the lineup as usual and because of Noesi’s reverse splits. Noesi just can’t get right handers out and even though Rios has been struggling against RHP this year, he’s got decent numbers in his career against them.

michael-brantley-100x75 Michael Brantley
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.352 0.960 3.87% 0.418
Last 7 Days Splits 0.429 1.119 0.00% 0.473
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Simon – RIGHT 0.235 0.691 3.85% 0.302
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.998 0.000 $4,900 $88,600 $9,300 $9,450 $0

Michael Brantley

Brantley is slowly becoming the star of the Indians team hitting walkoffs and generally getting on base at any opportunity possible. He has one of the better matchups tonight as the Indians avoid a stud pitcher and get Simon whose numbers are a bit better than his peripheral stats would guess. Brantley will be expensive but he’s a good guy to have.

denard-span-100x75 Denard Span
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.301 0.762 0.34% 0.338
Last 7 Days Splits 0.333 0.818 0.00% 0.384
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Gausman – RIGHT 0.258 0.728 1.56% 0.324
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.018 0.000 $4,500 $88,800 $8,200 $9,500 $0

Denard Span

As noted above, Gausman has allowed a .728 OPS to left handed batters and Span is in a great position leading off against him tonight. He does a lot in the way of getting on base, stealing bags, and scoring runs and also hits really well against right handed pitching. Span should be a solid play at the top of the Nationals lineup tonight.

jim-adduci-100x75 Jim Adduci
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.289 0.721 0.00% 0.325
Last 7 Days Splits 0.188 0.503 0.00% 0.25
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Noesi – RIGHT 0.227 0.695 4.28% 0.306
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.993 0.000 $2,900 $42,200 $3,600 $5,100 $0

Jim Adduci

To afford some of the pitchers tonight you’re going to have to have some cheap hitters. Adduci should fit the bill as he hits in the middle of the lineup against righties and should be there again today. He’s not a terribly great or efficient option, but he’s cheap and has potential.

adam-eaton-100x75 Adam Eaton
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.300 0.777 0.39% 0.346
Last 7 Days Splits 0.556 1.238 0.00% 0.544
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Martinez – RIGHT 0.304 0.919 4.09% 0.402
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.993 0.000 $4,800 $93,000 $8,500 $8,950 $0

Adam Eaton

Eaton is absolutely smoking right now, and is hitting everything that he sees. He doesn’t have much ISO but he has a nice OPS in the last month especially against RHP. He leads off for the White Sox and Martinez’ .912 OPS allowed to lefties is really one of the best hitting matchups on the slate tonight. If you can’t tell I love the White Sox hitters so grab early and grab often.
