Daily Batter Breakdown: Mon, June 9th
Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.
Baseball has blessed us with a pretty solid schedule of games on this Monday. There are some solid pitchers going and also a couple of games with really high over/unders so batters from those games are going to be the ones you want to target.

Victor Martinez
Martinez is having one of the best hitting seasons of his career so far this year, and makes an incredibly safe pick due to his lack of strikeouts. The over/under in the Tigers/White Sox game is fairly high and Martinez gets to face Noesi who hasn’t let in a ton of runs lately but his WHIP is terrible. Martinez has always in his career hit right handers extremely well and should be able to drive in a few tonight.

Again the Rockies are calling up a rookie arm to pitch in Coors Field which didn’t work out so well last time with Butler. This time it’s Christian Bergman who gets the call, and Bergman hasn’t been great at all this year in AAA. I’m definitely targeting a lot of Braves today. Freeman has been hitting the ball fairly well recently and is a pretty nice price at most places considering it’s in Coors Field and has crushed right handed pitching in his career.

Vegas is really low on Martinez and the Rangers today as they have the Indians at 5+ runs tonight. The Indians have a ton of solid left handed bats and really make a solid stack against right handed pitching. Martinez hasn’t been good lately giving up 3 HR in the last 10 innings with a WHIP over 2 and allowing an OPS of .935 to left handed batters. Stack up these Indians tonight especially since they are at a discount on a lot of sites.

Juan Francisco
Francisco is the right handed killer of the Jays and he gets a really nice matchup tonight in the homer-happy park of Rogers Centre. Nolasco hasn’t been good at all this year and has allowed 3 or more ER in 8 of 9 games. I don’t see it getting any better tonight against the massively talented and powerful Jays lineup and I think Francisco can be a solid bargain hitter on certain sites. He destroys right handed pitching and Nolasco has allowed a .938 OPS against.

Asdrubal Cabrera
Cabrera is really cheap across the industry and has been hitting with some extra pop in his bat lately with 2 HR in the last 4 games. As noted above he gets to hit against Nick Martinez tonight who isn’t the greatest pitcher out there and should give up a few runs to these Indians. Cabrera has hit right handers nicely this year with 5 of his 6 HRs against them and has always hit pretty decently against them in his career.
| Jason Heyward | |||||||

Jason Heyward
Heyward had a minor bump in the road on Sunday but other than that remains totally on fire. He smashed homers in 2 of the last 3 games and continues to make solid contact. I love him again tonight against Bergman as he will be hitting in Coors Field and should be able to do some solid damage against the 26 year old AAA pitcher. Heyward will lead off and brings an SB threat and power to the top of the lineup.

Justin Upton
The trio of Braves wraps up with Justin Upton who homered yesterday as well. I like him in Coors however it would be nice if he was hitting against a lefty, but I will take what I can get. His price on DS at 5.6k is an absolute steal for the talent level and the 10.5 over/under in the Vegas lines and he also makes a solid survivor play for 3.7k at FanDuel. Bergman should have trouble with this powerful lineup and I like Upton to have a really nice game even if its righty on righty which he still owns a .800 OPS against this year.

Melky Cabrera
Melky should make a solid play as well against Nolasco who I noted above really struggles against left handed batters and all hitters in general really. I do like Edwin and Jose tonight but I’m going to target the Jays lefties in Francisco and Lind and the switch hitter in Melky first as they are cheaper across the board and should provide just as big of upside. Rogers Centre is always a place to target bats and I really think that they do damage to Nolasco tonight.

Chris Davis
It almost seems criminal to be able to get Chris Davis for 6.5k on DS right now, and under 4k on FanDuel. Davis has hit 2 homers in the last 5 games and although his average is down, the upside is still there. He gets to face Peavy tonight who has been terrible this season and regularly gives up 5 runs a start. Davis will be hitting at home where he does a lot of damage and Peavy has allowed a .282 average and over a 5 ERA on the road which bodes well for Baltimore tonight.

Billy Butler
I’m still waiting to see the homer power return for Butler, but the doubles are back and if he continues to do that, the RBI’s will follow. He’s almost min salary on a couple of sites and it is still pretty incredible for such a proven hitter. I don’t like Nuno at all and his numbers just aren’t good at all. I like the Royals as a sneaky stack tonight as Nuno has been awful against righties and Butler has killed lefties over his career.
