Ok, enough with the World of Warcraft talk…I’m pumped for this $2,000 Daily Joust PreLaunch Bonanza even though I can’t play – I bet you guys are ready to get this going! If you haven’t heard of the new site brought to you by a Silicon Valley tycoon and one of the co-founders of Madden yet, check out the Daily Joust Review, and if you’re ready to sign-up now, just follow click this link for a 25% Daily Joust Promo Code. OK, now that the formalities are out of the way, here’s my Daily Joust Friday MLB Lineup Strategy rundown:

Daily Joust Scoring

First things first, new site means new scoring system. Let’s take a quick tour:

jered weaver

Pitching – Compared to FanDuel, Wins are still 7 and K’s are 1, but the rest is different. Points go up to 1 point per out, instead of 1 point per inning, increasing the value of pitchers that can go the distance. However, you’re also penalized heavier: -2 for Earned Runs and -1 for Hits, Walks and HBPs which makes paying attention to ERA and WHIP a bit more important than on FanDuel.

Pitcher Comparison: Jered Weaver

Daily Joust – 21.17 FPPG
FanDuel – 15.3 FPPG

(2011 Season Avg)

jose%20bautista

Hitting – Batters are more potent on Daily Joust than FanDuel. Runs Scored and RBIs are 2 points per instead of 1 like FanDuel. You also get 1 point for HBP and for Sacrifices. However, there’s more opportunity for negative points by getting a -1 for Strikeouts as well as for Grounding into Double Plays.

Hitter Comparison: Jose Bautista

Daily Joust – 6.88 FPPG
FanDuel – 5.2 FPPG

(2011 Season Avg)

Rosters – Rosters are 9 players, 1 SP and 8 batters, same as most Daily Fantasy sites. The only slight change is that you can select a 1B or a DH and there are 3 generic OF spots instead of LF, CF and RF

Scoring Tip For Winning the Freeroll – If you’re used to FanDuel, the proportion of scoring for a Batter and Hitter is not far off, so you should be fine. As you can see above Jered Weaver scores almost exactly 3x on Average as Jose Bautista, and on Daily Joust, the ratio is just over 3x Bautista’s average. There will be some variations depending on the player, but in general if you are used to FanDuel (or FSL) you should adjust quickly. The key to winning will be using the nuances that do exist to your advantage. ERA and WHIP now matter for your pitcher, make sure to take note of your pitchers ERA, WHIP and game log by clicking on their name and hitting the ‘SEASON’ tab in the player selection phase.

Sportsbook Odds – Winning Pitchers

jaime%20garcia

Now that you’re accustomed to the new digs, let’s look at where I’ve been starting my daily research lately…the sportsbook. I’m not promoting gambling here or anything, but when 7 points is between 33% and 50% of the points projected for your pitcher, you better choose a winner! Here’s the odds as of writing this for each team to win. Note that this does not reflect the chance a Starting Pitcher gets the Win, but that pitcher’s chance of getting the W is directly correlated to this value.

This is my first step in narrowing down the pitching talent on a full game day like this Friday. Sometimes I’ll include the -130s in the list as well, but it’s all about comparison and today there are too many good matchups. I’m only choosing pitchers from this list for Friday. But with that being said, I’m not playing in a large-field freeroll. Since the DJ $1k Freeroll is a free chance for you to win $500 against a lot of opponents, I wouldn’t blame you at all for rolling the dice on a not so desirable pitcher to get some ‘field odds’.

Pitchers to Target

Now that I have my Pitcher pool selected for the day, let’s cover some pitchers to target. On Daily Joust it’s easy to do this by sorting the SPs by FPPG in reverse order (click the 2011 FPPG column twice). Though FPPG isn’t directly related to a batters ability to hit, but since ER, Hits and Walks are factored into Daily Joust scoring, it’s an easy way to use their software to make an accurate determination in a quick manner. You can always take it into more detail with BvP, Park Factors and other split stats, but here’s a solid strong point for Pitchers to Target when selecting your Hitters, using the Daily Joust software to sort:

Daily Weather and Lineups

Just in time for the $1,000 Freeroll, RotoGrinders is proud to announce their MLB LINEUPS PAGE. What makes our new lineups page ultra-sweet is that the weather projections for the area of the game are automatically built into the Daily Lineups! Before you set your lineup today, make sure to check that all your players are in, and that the weather bar isn’t Yellow or Red, indicating a 30%+ chance of rain. If the game is held in a Dome or covered park, it will be indicated with a Dome icon in the top-right in place of a weather-related one! Click here for RotoGrinders’ Daily MLB Lineups, or just click the link at the top of the page.

Initial Lineup

After going through the above steps, and getting KCearnal’s approval, here is my initial lineup for Daily Joust on Friday. If this were the freeroll, I’d probably be taking a less favored pitcher to try to get good odds against the field, maybe someone like Nolasco. Outman also makes for an interesting candidate given the cirucmstances. As it stands here’s my ‘value-hitter’ lineup at the moment:

That does it for the tour of Daily Joust. If you’re not registered for the freeroll yet, make sure to check out the forums for more information. Enjoy the show! One of our members is going to be $500 richer by the end of the day!
