DFS Tournament Report: March 30th

The two big sites had million dollar contests and an extra period in the Heat-Lakers game would end up causing six-figure swings as the eventual winners would overcome leads to take home huge scores. The current RotoGrinders TPOY, ehafner, would come from behind to win the FanDuel MegaSlam and $100,000. Ehafner would have an amazing 15 lineups in the top 85, proving without doubt that he is one of, if not the, best at NBA GPP’s. On DraftKings, kingfi would start the overtime needing seven points to overtake ChipotleAddict. He would get that and more and hold on to win by just .25 points over TheClone and .5 points over RotoGrinders member fsupete01. Here’s a quick recap of how the action played out, the top 10 for each event, and the winning lineups:

DraftKings $1M Championship Series Finale ($444 entry fee)

Our first look at the leader board 90 minutes after roster lock saw dmiller61 (#81 in RG’s TPOY race) take the early lead with a Atlanta-Toronto mini-stack that included DeMar DeRozan, Paul Millsap, and Jonas Valanciunas. The likes of McLuvin and ehafner were also in the top five at that time. That lead would shift to pianoclub, whose lineup of Khris Middleton-Kawhi Leonard-Jabari Parker-Chris Paul led lineup would hold the lead over the next 90 minutes until ChipotleAddict would surge into the lead with his Chris Paul-Alex Len-DeMarcus Cousins led lineup with bcalicore, cynicalparasite, and SamENole also in the top five. With just the Kings-Wizards and Lakers-Heat game remaining, the lead would change back and forth between several players with most having Cousins on their rosters. It would, however, be the final game of the night that would be the determining factor. With the Kings-Wizards game complete, kingfi sat in eighth place, 14.25 points behind ChipotleAddict with Goran Dragic and Luol Deng left. It seemed hopeless but the game would go into overtime with kingfi still trailing ChipotleAddict by a little more than 7 points. A flurry of competitors would pass ChipotleAddict who would end up finishing in sixth place and kingfi would move into the top spot and hold on for dear life. His final score of 329.0 was .25 better than second place finisher, TheClone, and .5 better than third place finisher fsupete01. Pianoclub would actually have a second lineup move into fourth place for a not too shabby $30,000 pay day.

Final Standings:

1. kingfi 329.0 – $200,000
2. TheClone 328.75 – $100,000
3. fsupete01 328.5 – $50,000
4. pianoclub 328.25 – $30,000
5. kingfi 326.75 – $20,000
6. ChipotleAddict 325.25 – $15,000
7. rayofhope 322.5 – $12,500
8. bcalicore 321.75 – $12,500
9. TheClone 320.75 – $10,000
10. Jesseyagz 318.75 – $10,000

FanDuel $1 Million Mega Slam ($25 entry fee)

Bellaedward4eva would be the early leader in the Mega slam with a Chris Paul-DeMar DeRozan-Khris Middleton-Alex Len led lineup and he would battle with alwayspicking1 and his Paul-JJ Barea-DeRozan-PJ Tucker-Len led lineup over the next hour. Then it was the giantsquid show as he would at one point have four of the top six scores. Then a flurry of John Wall points at the end of the Kings-Wizards game moved theclone into the top spot with bcalicore in second and bellaedward4eva in third. Giantsquid still had a team alive in fifth with Dwyane Wade remaining and after Wade scored the last 8 points of the game for the Heat he only needed Wade to connect on his last-second shot to win it all. The shot would clank off the rim though and while giantsquid was just 1.9 points behind the lead, ehafner was in much better shape in fourth place just 6.3 points behind the lead and three players (Wade, Luol Deng, and Hassan Whiteside) remaining. The current RG TPOY would surge into the lead and never look back as giantsquid would have to settle for second place. Ehafner would end up with three of the top six finishes, good for $130,000.

Final Standings:

1. ehafner 380.30 – $100,000
2. giantsquid 373.30 – $60,000
3. ashy_l4rry 372.50 – $35,000
4. ehafner 368.60 – $20,000
5. theclone 368.20 – $15,000
6. ehafner 367.90 – $10,000
7. bcalicore 366.70 – $7,500
8. giantsquid 364.90 – $7,500
9. squirrelpatrol 364.50 – $5,000
10. syw0r1d 363.90 – $5,000
