DraftKings and MLS Enter Into Official Partnership
Fantasy Soccer players, rejoice!
DraftKings has entered into the first exclusive deal with Major League Soccer (MLS) to become their official provider for fantasy games. This move echoes other moves that DraftKings has completed over the last two years to partner with the various leagues across North American sports, ranging from MLB, NHL, NASCAR and now MLS.
With this partnership, DraftKings shows their commitment to expand their soccer product, and with a partnership with MLS it expands the opportunity to market directly to soccer fans in the United States who may not have heard of DraftKings or Daily Fantasy.
A Logical Partnership
“You’ll see deep integration within our many digital platforms and you’ll see a number of club deals. We are delighted to partner with DraftKings to give our passionate fans another innovative way to experience the sport that they love.” – Gary Stevenson, President and Managing Director of MLS Business.
This is great news for Daily Fantasy players who have enjoyed the DraftKings offerings so far, as this could translate to many different avenues including increased prize pools for Daily Fantasy Soccer.
If DraftKings manages to integrate a small percentage of the US soccer fan base and transform them into DFS players, the expectation is that this can carry over to EPL and UCL and even over to other sport offerings over on DraftKings
Growing The Sport
“Soccer is an incredibly exciting sport that is underrepresented in daily fantasy and we’re going to change that in a big way,” said Jason Robins, CEO of DraftKings. “We are truly looking forward to collaborating with MLS on unique contests and exclusive one-of-a-kind experiences that will thrill their passionate fan base and thoroughly engage the DraftKings community.”
With this statement Jason Robins gives us a glimpse into the future of MLS on DraftKings with the mention of exclusive one-of-a-kind experiences; it brings to mind the various promotions that DraftKings has provided for its players across other sports including game experiences, locker room experiences and many more.
Indeed, the future of DFS soccer looks bright.
