Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?

Notorious: I love targeting right-handed pitchers against the Orioles and we have a chance to get a low-owned Sonny Gray at a discounted price point tonight. He has been much better on the road (averaging 13 more fantasy points per game) and he has a 21% strikeout rate against right-handed hitters. The Orioles have no choice but to roll out a right-handed heavy lineup tonight.

meansy53: The line for Chris Sale in six starts since June 8th: 41 IP, 42.9% K%, 16.9% SwStr%, 5.8% BB%, 1.83 SIERA, 56.8% GB%, and 30.3% Hard%. Alrighty then.

Stevietpfl: Carlos Rodon is pitching a little better to right-handed hitters this season, as he has a .326 wOBA with a .183 ISO allowed. That doesn’t tell the whole story though, considering he has a 16.5% strikeout rate with a .238 BABIP against righties. His xFIP is 6.13 and a lot of numbers suggest some massive regression on his numbers to right-handed hitters.

Pepsi7: Chris Sale is the top dog tonight, but, if you need the savings in GPPs, Kenta Maeda is currently pitching like an ace, at a discounted price. Maeda has nine strikeouts in each of his last three starts, while allowing just three earned runs. Not to mention, the Dodgers righty also has a plus matchup on deck, as he faces an undisciplined San Diego Padres team that strikes out at a 25.9% clip versus right-handed pitching, which is the second highest rate in Major League Baseball.

What is your hot take of the day?

Notorious: The Reds outscore the Diamondbacks.

meansy53: Chris Sale strikes out 14 Rangers in a complete game shutout.

Stevietpfl: Kyle Tucker hits his first career home run in the majors.

Pepsi7: Sale, deGrom, McCullers and Maeda all hit double-digits in strikeouts

Who is your top overall pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Chris Sale – He’s the best pitcher in baseball right now. He currently owns a 2.43 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 37%. He’s one of a handful of starters that has a higher soft contact than hard contact rate. He’s a lock in cash games and a great tournament play, despite the high ownership. He should have no issues against the Rangers, who have struggled against southpaws all season.

meansy53: Chris Sale – See that line a few questions up. 43% strikeouts and 57% groundballs is just ridiculous, and it coincides with a bump in velocity over that span of time. The righties in this Texas lineup do not scare me one bit, making Sale the easy choice for me over deGrom despite his phenomenal matchup against Philly.

Stevietpfl: Mike Foltynewicz – Sale is the best play on the slate and anyone that disagrees with that is just arguing to be different. With that said, I love this spot for Mike Foltynewicz and I’m willing to be different with Folty in tournaments (I’m playing Sale in cash). He uses his slider 40% of the time against right-handed hitters and he has a .029 ISO with a .151 wOBA and a 15.7% swinging strike rate with it against righties. Outside of Smoak and Granderson, this Toronto team struggles with sliders. The bottom of this order is really weak, so I love the upside in this spot for him.

Pepsi7: Chris Sale – The Boston Red Sox southpaw has been downright filthy of late, generating a 42.9% strikeout rate over his last six starts, hitting double-digits in K’s five times. On top of that, he continues to have impeccable control, while getting plenty of groundballs. No need to overthink this one tonight, Sale is the man.

Who is your top overall hitter (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Mookie BettsBartolo Colon is a great story, but he’s not a good pitcher. He’s had reverse-splits this season, allowing a .377 xwOBA and a 46% hard contact rate to right-handed hitters. Betts brings power (.313 ISO against righties this season) and stolen base upside to the table. He’s my favorite batter of the slate.

meansy53: Mookie Betts – With great high-end pitching options and Coors on this slate, we are going to get Mookie at a smaller ownership number than he should be. With opposing pitcher Bartolo Colon unable to miss any bats and Mookie having a stupid low 12.9% K% this season against RHP, he is almost assuredly going to put the ball into play in each at-bat tonight. With a .454 wOBA and .310 ISO against RHP this season, I am going to venture that something good happens to Mookie tonight.

Stevietpfl: Marcell Ozuna – We have great pitching options tonight, which means we’re going to need some value options. Marcell Ozuna is the top value play on this slate for me tonight, and I think he’s underpriced across the industry. He has a great hard-hit rate against lefties, but he’s just hitting way too many groundballs. Ozuna should benefit from a fly ball pitcher on the mound tonight, especially since Rodon continues to allow a lot of hard contact to righties.

Pepsi7: Charlie BlackmonShelby Miller continues to struggle versus left-handed hitters (66.7% hard-hit rate) and Blackmon is an absolute beast against right-handed pitching on home soil. Blackmon has jack-and-a-bag upside tonight and I am willing to pay his hefty price tag.
