FanDuel Stock Market Exchange: Naapster, KC and JMB Wage War

What happens when you put three degenerate fantasy grinders in the same chat box for a long period of time? Well, in this case, side-bets on the season long value of daily fantasy players. Erik, Kevin and John, better known as Naapsterman, KCearnal and jmbwngfn on FanDuel, recently made a friendly wager and decided to post the action and results for the public to see here on RotoGrinders.
Here’s the game (as described by jmbwngfn):
I was thinking we could use one of the upcoming tournaments as the basis for our “salary”, notably the DFBC prices from last Friday. We’d still have some wrinkles to iron out, but for now, as far as the rules go, we’re doing:
1) Same roster format as Fanduel
2) Must spend between 27K and 35K in salary on our team
3) The team with the largest percentage gain in salary between now and the ending date wins (not necessarily largest Dollar gain).
End Date: End of the Regular Season
Stakes: FanDuel legend MitchDog will set the 2 losers lineups for the first week of the MLB Daily Fantasy Playoffs.
KC is the creative one, and he decided we should submit them all publicly to RotoGrinders one at a time. Each of our picks are accompanied by a 1 or 2 line explanation. Whether it be funny, statistical, or anything else wouldn’t really matter.
- John aka ‘jmbwngfn’ on FanDuel
Well, there you have it kids. This should be a fun one to watch. Make sure to grab these players while they’re still hot, because these guys know what they’re doing! Rumor has it the stakes may increase from week-to-week as the contest goes on. If that’s the case, we’ll make sure to keep you updated.

P: Dillon Gee (NYM) – $4,500
Gee’s 6-0 with an ERA under 4, and should see a good salary jump soon if he can get a few more wins in in his next 6 or 7 starts.
C: Wilson Ramos (WSH) – $2,800
He gets the majority of playing time over Ivan Rodriguez, has HR potential, and is the only catcher under $3k I liked to increase in salary. He does strikeout a lot but for $2,800 I think he can get it to $3,300 with some solid game streaks.
1B: Mark Trumbo (LAA) – $3,000
With Kendry Morales done for the year, Trumbo has filled in very nicely with 11 HR’s so far. I’m not expecting a huge salary increase over the year, but I think a few hundred more is possible.
2B: Matt Tolbert (MIN) – $2,500
He used to get sporadic playing time but has become a starter, and is usually good for 1 or 2 hits a game and a steal here and there. If he keeps getting the PT I’d expect his price to rise.
3B: Greg Dobbs (FLA) – $2,900
It was between Dobbs and Jayson Nix for 3B. Dobbs was cheaper and hits higher in the lineup.
SS: Brandon Crawford (SF) – $3,000
He’s played every day since May 27th, and from his original sub-$2500 salary he has quickly hit $3,000. As he becomes more comfortable in the majors and gets more experience he could definitely reach the $3,500-$3,700 range.
LF: Carlos Peguero (SEA) – $2,500
He’s had a multi-HR game, has 7 hits in his last 7 games, and was the only super cheap LF that I felt would continue to see playing time since he’s not just a DL fill-in like other cheap LF’s are.
CF: Ben Revere (MIN) – $2,500
With 13 hits in his last 8 games I’m not sure how his salary has barely budged. Add in his threat to steal a bag or two and I don’t see how his price can do anything but go up.
RF: Brennan Boesch (DET) – $3,300
He doesn’t have much room to increase in salary, but if he has a couple more hot-streaks and multi-HR games I’m hoping he can hit around $3,700.

SP Kyle Lohse $4,700
Entering the year, I didn’t think he’d be much more
than a bottom of the barrel rotation guy, as his price reflects. But he’s been
one of the most solid starters in the NL, and is among the league leaders in
Wins and WHIP. FD will manually bump this price to somewhere in the 7000s.
C Joe Mauer $3,200
He’s completed his rehab assignment and barring any
further setbacks he should be back in a Twins uniform very, very soon. He’s
arguably the best fantasy catcher in the game, and this price doesn’t reflect
that. He’ll start pounding out 2-hit games and his price will shoot up quickly.
1B Albert Pujols $3,700
You see Jose Bautista price. His will be equal by
the Mid-August. He will be the King of Summer.
2B Dan Uggla $3,100
He can’t play as bad as he’s been playing much longer.
Those huge pipes are gonna put in some serious work this Summer. Power explosion
is on the horizon. And so is a price jump.
3B Casey McGehee $3,200
Hitting behind Braun and Fielder is a great RBI
slot, but the guy has been in a funk almost all season. He’s a pure hitter
though. He’ll bust out in a big way real soon. Scary to think what the BrewCrew
offense will do with him hitting.
SS Starlin Castro $3,300
He’s an elite level SS with a price that isn’t
quite there yet. The guy hit’s over .300 with some pop. He’ll be up in the high
3000s by year’s end.
LF Carlos Peguero $2,500
He’s Cheap. He’s gonna get playing time on the
baby-boomer Mariners. He can’t stay at this price for long. Even if he does play
half his games in Safeco.
CF Marlon Byrd $3,200
They insist on hitting this guy third when he’s
healthy. And even though the Cubs offense is an old, gimpy one, it can be
somewhat prolific when its intact. This guy will do some damage when he remerges
from injury, which should be very soon.
RF Nick Markakis $3,200
He’s on almost every fantasy team of mine. I want
him to do better. Thought that including him here might help. It certainly can’t
hurt whats been an incredibly mediocre year for Markakis thus far. Here’s to
hoping he turns it around.

SP Edinson Volquez $5,000
I can’t stand the guy and most likely won’t take him once this year, but 5K has to be the price floor for this nut. If he pitches well and his price increases, cool. If he continues to suck and is out of the majors again in September… Cool. It’s a Win/Win for me!
C Jarrod Saltalamacchia $2,700
A catcher who should play 100+ games and has 15+ HR potential should not be $2700. Fanduel finally bumped JP up in price last week; Salty is next.
1B Albert Pujols $3,700
He’s officially out of his funk and his current price won’t last long. By September he’ll be the most expensive 1B and cost at least 4K.
2B Tsuyoshi Nishioka $2,200
Very little power, constantly injured, not overly fast… What’s not to like? Regardless of that, he’s about to return to the lineup and be an everyday 2B (and it’s not like his price can get much lower). His price is so low right now that even Mitch can afford him.
3B Casey McGehee $3,200
Only one word comes to mind to describe McGehee’s start to this season; BAD. Realistically he should probably be cheaper than 3200 right now, but I think it’s a safe gamble to assume his BABIP (.258 this year) will dramatically improve and that the HR’s will start coming. I’m confident in a respectable 10% ROI here.
SS Troy Tulowitzki $3,600
Not that his current price is really a “bargain” but anything close to a repeat of last year’s September (15HR’s and 40 RBI’s in 28 games) will land his salary north of 4K
LF Carl Crawford $3,500
He’s not all that cheap now, but I’m pretty certain he won’t be cheaper than Corey Patterson or Andres Torres for long. I’ll play it safe and hope for a $300-400 gain here.
CF Dominic Brown $3,300
I’m not really fond of any of the CF options, so I’ll roll the dice with Brown. This is probably a fair price considering his lack of experience, but I like his upside more than any of the other moderately priced Centerfielders.
RF Jason Heyward $3,300
If he’ll just listen to Chipper and get back his ass back into the lineup then his price will jump back to the upper 3,000’s, where it belongs.
