Finding Paydirt: Season Finale

Happy New Year, Grinders! Today, we reflect upon the 2019 NFL regular season and the voluminous amount of touchdowns we witnessed. For the final results article of the year, I am going to shake things up. Let’s review the leading rushing and receiving touchdown scorers for our three positions. We begin with possibly the most important position to get right in daily fantasy each week — running back.
RB Rushing Touchdown Leader — Derrick Henry
The featured image for the article says it all. Derrick Henry closed 2019 with a monumental performance — scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 211 yards. Heading into Week 17, Nick Chubb seemed to have a tight grip on the rushing title with a matchup against the Bengals. After bungling the game with a 41-yard performance, the door was open for Henry to eclipse Chubb’s total with a monster performance. Needing 11 yards on his last drive, Henry — in typical Henry fashion — broke a 53-yard touchdown run to take the overall lead in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. The final touchdown broke a tie with Christian McCaffrey and left Henry tied with Aaron Jones with 16 rushing touchdowns. Henry was frequently available to our players as the Titans were rarely scheduled for satellite games and the price was cheaper until the end of the season.
The aforementioned Aaron Jones and Christian McCaffrey led the NFL in total touchdowns with 19 while Henry finished with 18. Not one of McCaffrey’s touchdowns was available for our players, though, and Jones was frequently cut from the player pool. Henry was certainly the running back to pick this year in the comments.
WR Receiving Touchdown Leader — Kenny Golladay

Admittedly, I was stunned that the NFL leader in receiving touchdowns was Kenny Golladay. Yet, Golladay was another player available to our players nearly every week. Golladay and teammate, Marvin Jones, were almost never on the “Cut List.” Golladay finished with 11 — often spectacular — receiving touchdowns, one more than Cooper Kupp and…
TE Receiving Touchdown Leader — Mark Andrews
This one was not even close. Andrews led the tight end position with ten receiving touchdowns — just behind Golladay for the NFL lead. Andrews was the top target for future NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and was available early in the season to contestants as DraftKings slowly adjusted pricing.
Andrews’ ten touchdowns were three ahead of the next tight end. Care to guess who finished in second place? Surely, Travis Kelce. No? George Kittle, then? Nope. Oh, yeah, Zach Ertz! Close, but no…
Darren Fells finished second for tight ends with seven touchdowns.

Alright, the time has come. The following is the final leaderboard update for 2019.

In clutch fashion, boomanfoo pulled off a four-touchdown week that vaulted him into the top spot for our final contest period of the season. The four touchdowns capped a ten-touchdown month for boomanfoo who put it together in the last month. A frequent reader and participant for both my baseball and football article, I was pleased to see a great performance out of him. Please shoot me a direct message for address and size information for your shirt. Congratulations!
Now, for the crowning, we waited for throughout the NFL season. The overall leaderboard closed the way many expected over the last couple of months as 1010mg just seemed fated to win this title. By no means does that take anything away, 1010mg dominated the leaderboards throughout the season. In the final period, he was able to pull off just enough touchdowns (6) to fend off late competition. The 39 touchdowns were easily the new high mark for touchdowns over the course of a season. I hope 1010mg comes back for MLB and next year’s NFL contest to defend his crown. Congratulations! I will reach out to you when your premium is credited.
Thanks, everyone for another great NFL season. The articles for this series as well as the dialogue within the community continue to bring me plenty of joy. I will be on a bit of a hiatus on the DFS (sort of) side of things until MLB kicks off. In the meantime, you can find my work on the sports betting side of things in our articles section. Also, give me a follow on Twitter if you have not already. Enjoy the beginning of 2020 and thanks again.
