On Wednesday, the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors will meet at the Chase Center as part of ESPN’s NBA double-header. Entering play, Memphis (31-16) is 2.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for the top seed in the Western Conference. Golden State (23-24) currently owns the final play-in position in the standings. Nevertheless, oddsmakers are expecting a competitive game between these two teams, pricing the Warriors as 3.5-point home favorites on the spread.

Memphis Grizzlies

Off-beat on the road

Though Memphis owns the second-best record in the Western Conference, they have struggled mightily on the road this season – winning only 11 of 24 games outside of their home building. Following an 11-game winning streak, Memphis has lost each of the first three games of their current road trip – having been defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Sacramento Kings.

In 24 road games this year, the Grizzlies rank 11th out of 30 teams in Net Rating, having been outscored by 1.4 points per 100 possessions. Memphis has been particularly poor defending the perimeter in these situations, ranking 26th in opponent three-point attempts and 25th in opponent three-point percentage. Facing a Golden State offense that leads the NBA in attempts from beyond-the-arc, this defense could be in for a long night.

Adams OUT

Tonight, Steven Adams will miss his second consecutive game due to a right knee injury. Adams ranks fourth in the league in rebounding this season, with 11.5 boards per game.

In his absence, Brandon Clarke and Jaren Jackson Jr. will be tasked with increased responsibility on the glass. In Monday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings, the Grizzlies had no players with more than six rebounds.

Golden State Warriors

Thompson lights out at Chase Center

In 19 home games this season, Klay Thompson is averaging 23.1 points on 19.5 shot attempts, compared to 17.9 points on 16.1 shot attempts in 17 road games. In Thompson’s last 10 games at the Chase Center, he has scored 24 points or more nine times, with six games of at least 28 points.

In recent weeks, the Grizzlies have struggled to defend opposing guards, allowing 22 points to Chris Paul, 29 points to Russell Westbrook, 24 points to Darius Garland, and 23 points to Caris LeVert. Expect Thompson to have another strong performance on Wednesday in the comfort of his home building. Bet the over on Klay Thompson’s points using our PrizePicks promo code.

Dominant at home

Thompson is not the only member of the Warriors who loves playing in front of the home fans. In 23 home games this year, Golden State is 17-6, which is the third-best winning percentage of any team in the Western Conference in home games.

The primary key to the Warriors’ success in these situations is their commitment to getting stops. Only three teams are allowing fewer points per 100 possessions at home this year than Golden State.

Grizzlies vs. Warriors – Picks & Predictions

Both the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors are going to have extreme difficulties on the glass tonight. In 47 games this season, Golden State ranks 19th out of 30 teams in rebound percentage, and they have consistently failed to have an answer for opponents with more size than them. In Monday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings, the Grizzlies were out-rebounded 53-31, with Steven Adams out of the lineup.

Expect a quick pace between two teams that will be overly reliant on small-ball this evening. The over is worth a small stab from bettors in this spot.

PICK: Over 245.5 (-109, Wynn)
