Welcome to the recap of round 7 between Hixvillehunk and Brettfavre444. All the money is on the line tonight, and someone will be $5,000 richer after this matchup. After being down 3 to 1, Hixville was able to win 2 in a row to tie everything up at 3.

My Initial Thoughts On Both Lineups:
Well I thought this matchup would come down to pitching, and that’s not going to happen with both players having the same 3 pitchers. It’s going to come down to 5 hitters tonight, and which player was able to put together a better core. I’m going to give the edge to Favre tonight, and I really like his team tonight.
Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:
1) Like I said above both players have the same 3 pitchers. Ventura was in a really great spot today against the Padres, they are becoming the Astros of last season. Ventura is a strikeout pitcher and has unlimited upside against a team like Padres.
2) Favre decided to target the left handed pitcher at Coors, he took Tulo/Stubbs. Troy Tulowitzki was 9.2k but Favre was able to fit him in. Tulo is always in play at home against a left handed pitcher, and he’s currently leading the NL in batting average. Stubbs was under 5k today, and made for a good value play. Stubbs has always hit left handed pitching better in his career, and has the Coors factor in his favor.
3) He decided to punt with Kubel and Johnson. I’m not a fan of the Kubel pick today, and really think McAllister will shut this team down today. McAllister is much better at home, and Kubel might be in for a couple strikeouts today. Chris Johnson makes a decent play, and doesn’t really strikeout so he shouldn’t hurt Favre. Miller isn’t really a strikeout pitcher and Johnson bats in the middle of the order.
4) Alex Avila was a solid catching option today, and I think the Tigers will be able to score against Cosart. Cosart has a 5.52 ERA this season and has given up 19 ER in 31 innings. Avila has started to swing the bat better lately, and under 5k makes for a solid value option. Both players have Beltre and Gennett. Gennett makes for a good play today facing Bolsinger, Bolsinger has really struggled to get left handed hitters out this season. Beltre is coming off a good game, and gets to play at Coors today. Beltre has good upside today but it won’t matter in this matchup today.
Breaking Down Hixvillehunk’s Lineup:
1) Jose Quintana and Jeff Samardzija are pitching against each other tonight, and I usually don’t like this strategy but I like it a lot today. Both pitchers pitch deep into the game usually, and this game has one of the lowest O/U on the board. The Cubs power comes from the left side of the plate, and their right handed hitters actually hit right handed pitchers better than left. The White Sox are scoring a lot of runs this season, but I’ll always take a hot pitcher over a hot hitting team.
2) Hixville went with a more balanced lineup today, and only paid up for two hitters today. Jose Reyes is one of my top options today, and has good BvP against Kendrick in his career. The Blue Jays are all swinging hot bats right now, and Kendrick is going to have a tough time getting these guys out today. Prince Fielder gets to face a right handed pitcher at Coors today, and both players plugged him in today.
3) Matt Carpenter and Leonys Martin were both in play for me today, and have the L/R match ups in their favor. Carpenter faces old man Harang tonight, and I’m just not a believer in what Harang did to start the season. Carpenter leads off for the Cards, and is always one of my top cash game options. Carpenter is just so good at getting on base and putting the ball in play, he almost never goes negative. Martin is a good value option today, he faces a right handed pitcher at Coors, but I don’t really like this pick today. Lyles has been better against left handed hitters this season, and he’s been really good at home so far.
4) Jordan Pacheco and Stefen Romero are the two cheap guys on Hixville’s team today. Pacheco has done a good job filling in for Rosario, and today he gets to face a right handed pitcher. Perez has been better on the road this season, but I don’t think that matters when going to Coors. Romero has had 2 good games in a row, but is in a very tough matchup against Kazmir today. Kazmir is one of the top favorites on the board, and Romero is averaging close to a strikeout a game. Romero has the R/L matchup but like I said it’s a tough one today.
How The Game Played Out:
1) This game was really fun to follow tonight, and really came down to a final at bat. Hixville had a chance with Romero’s final at bat, but he wasn’t able to do anything. Both players nailed it today and we got a really great game 7. Their pitchers were able to do exactly what we thought they’d do, but I really thought Ventura would pick up a win against the Padres tonight.
2) Hixvillehunk was able to get great value out of Stefen Romero tonight, as he hit his first homerun of the season. Matt Carpenter also had a really good game tonight, and was able to really get to old man Harang. Reyes hit a homerun in his first at bat, but wasn’t able to do anything else in this game. Martin and Pacheco combined for a -.50, and could have been the deciding factor in this matchup.
3) I think CSURam just got another Rockies fan! Favre nailed his Tulo/Stubbs pick tonight, and they carried him to victory tonight. Tulo had a great game tonight, and he was the deciding factor in game 7. Drew Stubbs was 3 for 4 and turned out to be a great value play. These two guys combined for 28 points tonight, and all 9 hitters of Hixville combined for 34.25 points. Kubel as I suspected went negative tonight, and McAllister was able to shut down the Twins tonight. Johnson and Avila combined for 1.5, but honestly it didn’t matter tonight.
4) Final Thoughts, this series was a lot of fun to follow, and I hope you guys enjoyed these write-ups everyday. I think breaking down top players lineups is a great way to improve and strengthen your own game. Favre was able to beat Hixville tonight and win the series, but Hixville really made a run for him tonight. Hixville lead most of the night, but Coors field will haunt his dreams for the next few days. Thanks once again to Draftstreet for putting this together, and thank all of you for following along with me. I’m pretty sure RotoGrinders plans to bring you coverage of the next high stake series game.
