DraftStreet: Head-to-Head Starting Lineup
Starting Quarterback
Philip Rivers – Rivers has thrown for 400 yards 3 times this season. Parlay that with Rivers’ matchup against the Denver pass D and the fact that the Chargers will most likely play from behind most of the game, I think Rivers has a monster game.
Drew Brees – A week after making Christian Ponder look good, the Cowboys defense looks to stop Drew Brees. Yeah good one! The Cowboys D gives up the most points to quarterbacks. Brees should be in for a big game.
Practice Squad Quarterback (Considered Starting)
Robert Griffin III – I have taken RG3 the past two weeks when he had plus matchups. He was a large disappointment in both games. He gets another great matchup against a Minnesota defense that allows the 6th most points to opposing QBs. I decided to go expensive on QB this week. If you are looking to save money his price is right.
Starting Running Back
Shonn Greene – Greene looked good last week. He still gets a near basement price for a guy that gets 10-15 touches while receiving all the goal line work. I think he finds the end zone again this week against a bad Jacksonville defense.
Mike James – James had a very good game last week against a tough Seattle defense. Now he gets to face the 2nd worst defense against the run in Miami. The Dolphins spent more time meeting with the media than practicing this week. Look for James to have another big game.
Rashad Jennings – Do you see the theme here? I decided to go cheap at RB this week. It was tough to turn down the value of these 3 guys. Jennings will be the main beneficiary from the McFadden injury. Based on the number of touches he should receive this week, I found it tough not to take him.
Practice Squad Quarterback (Considered Starting)
DeMarco Murray – I like his price and matchup this week. Watching last week’s game against the Vikings, it seemed Murray wasn’t 100% or the Cowboys were managing his workload coming back from injury. Either way, it was enough for me to fade him this week.
Starting Wide Receiver
Antonio Brown – The Bills allow the 2nd most points to WR’s. Brown has been a man of many targets and receptions. If he can find the end zone this week he is a great play at this price.
Brandon Marshall – Did I hear Cutler was playing this week? Marshall is Cutler’s guy and I think we will see plenty of that connection this week. Detroit also allows the 6th most points to WRs.
Demaryius Thomas – I typically fade the Denver WR’s/TE as it is tough to predict who goes off week to week. I couldn’t get myself away from D. Thomas’ dropping price. Add in the fact that San Diego allows the 5th most points to WR’s as well as 5th most points against wide receiver #1’s (if there is a clear WR #1 in Denver), the matchup is too good for the price. I am hoping this is the week Peyton and Thomas rekindle their connection from last year.
Practice Squad Quarterback (Considered Starting)
Kennan Allen – I know I am going to regret this fade. As I stated above, I think Rivers has a big game. Keenan has turned into his favorite target and has a good matchup against Denver’s pass D who allows the 7th most points to WRs. I wouldn’t be surprised if Allen has 15+ targets this week.
Starting Tight End
Jordan Reed – This guy is a superstar in the making. His QB has struggled of late which has allowed Reed’s price from joining the ranks of the upper tier TE’s. Minnesota allows the 6th most points to TE’s. I think RG3 and Reed get back in sync this week.
Practice Squad Quarterback (Considered Starting)
Garrett Graham – Graham has the price of a backup. He is also gets a dream matchup against the worst defense against TE’s. If you are looking to save some money here is a good spot.
Starting Defense
Saints – I needed to save money in order to spend at QB and WR. Thanks to Rob Ryan’s blitz happy defensive scheme, the Saints D has actually been Ok this year. I think the Saints get to Romo this week and create a couple turnovers to return the value.
Practice Squad Quarterback (Considered Starting)
Titans – If you have the money leftover it seems you should spend it here. The Jacksonville offense has been atrocious this year. Vegas has Jacksonville O/U at 14.25 which is the lowest by over 3 points. I decided to spend the money somewhere else.
Draftking Guaranteed Prize Pool Line-up
Starting Connection:
Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson – I believe the quote is “If the line-up won you a bunch of Fantasy Millionaire tickets over the last couple weeks, don’t fix it.” Stafford was affordable, as the 6th highest priced QB in a middle of the road match-up versus a Bears defense, who has injuries on the defensive line, in the linebacker corps, and in the secondary. For Megatron, the question is always just “How Much?” Priced at less than “An Arm and a Leg,” it was the right price.
Practice Squad Connection (Considered Starting)
Phillip Rivers to Keenan Allen – Rivers was priced the same, and he draws a cushy match-up, trying to keep pace with Peyton Manning. With garbage time counting the same, Denver has been one of the best quarterback match-ups this year. Allen has been surging of late, and at $6,000, the price hasn’t adjusted accordingly. The only thing that kept Rivers-to-Allen out of our lineup was the “Break the Scoreboard” Upside of Calvin Johnson.
Starting Running Backs
Andre Ellington – With a big chunk of salary in Megatron’s pocket, I had to hit the bargain bin for running backs. It’s no problem though, as chasing the 100 yard bonus at running back is like chasing the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow: it’s always gone by the time you get there. With Ellington, you get big reception upside, a promise of 20 touches from the Cardinal coaching staff, and a cheap $4,800 price.
Mike James – The match-up is prime here for James. Miami is the best team you can see across from your running back in a PPR format, and Mike James has surprisingly gotten some production through the air the last couple weeks. Coming off a monster last week and priced at $4,000, he was a must.
Practice Squad Running Back (Considered Starting)
Danny Woodhead – With Woodhead’s price over the last couple weeks, it’s as though DK hasn’t figured out they are a PPR league. He’s as consistent as the sunrise, good for 5 receptions and 70 total yards like clockwork. When you layer on that San Diego could be in catch-up mode, it makes the Charger’s “passing downs” guy even more attractive. Unfortunately, budget constraints kept him on the sidelines, for me.
Starting Wide Receivers
Keenan Allen – Ha! All because he didn’t make the central framework of the line-up doesn’t mean I couldn’t slide him in as a value wide receiver. At 60% of Megatron’s value, it’s hard not to find a spot for Allen, especially with the volume of balls you expect will be spiraling his way.
Victor Cruz – Another one of those mantras to live by is “When you have the chance to start the best wide receiver on a team versus a team that gave up 7 passing touchdowns the week before, you should take that chance.” Add in “at home” and “off a bye,” and the mantra gets lengthy, though more convincing.
Practice Squad Wide Receiver (Considered Starting)
Kendall Wright – With very consistent targets, very consistent receptions, and very consistent bad defensive play by the Jaguars, it just feels “Wright”. The only worry is Tennessee’s recommitment to the run coupled with a likely second half lead. Also, Wright’s a bit of a long-shot to hit the 100 yard bonus, so I benched him.
Starting Tight End
Tyler Eifert – This was “Garrett Graham(player-profile)”:/players/Garrett_Graham-12833’s spot until Jermaine Gresham was inactivated today. Hoping the combined tight end production of the two Bengals would combine like Voltron into a super tight-end box score, I made a late switch. Also, he was cheaper.
Practice Squad Tight End (Considered Starting)
Garrett Graham – The thing you can say about Graham is that the Arizona defense covers tight end about as well as the 2013 Texans cover the spread (that is, 1 out of every 8 times). A non-TD box score would be a surprise, despite Houston’s offensive woes thus far.
Starting Defense
Titans – Until Jacksonville proves me wrong, I’m going to start teams against them. The formula for a defense against Jacksonville is such: 1) get ahead, 2) create turnovers when the Jags throw to catch up, and 3) score on those turnovers. The formula this Sunday also includes “No Blackmon.”
Practice Squad Defense (Considered Starting)
Saints – “Home, home, in a dome” sounds like the refrain to a folk song. It’s also the Saint defense’s key advantage against a Dallas offense, which isn’t exactly a stranger to turnovers. Also, you’d expect the Saints’ defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, to be familiar with the Cowboy’s offense, since he used to see them every day in practice. The only thing that kept them on the bench was the potency of Romo to Dez and Co.
