DraftStreet: Head-to-Head Starting Lineup
Quarterack
Russell Wilson – Steady Eddy has been very good of late. Wilson gets a matchup against the 2nd worst defense vs. QB’s. The Vikings have allowed an average of 21.4 points per game to opposing QB’s. The only question, will they shut down the offense in the 2nd half due to a blowout?
Nick Foles – One of the hottest QB’s in the NFL right now. Foles gets a plus matchup against a Washington D which gives up the 6th most points to QB’s. I really like Foles’ chances of staying hot this week.
Practice Squad Quarterback (Considered Starting)
Eli Manning – Manning gets a struggling defense at home. The Packers allow the 10th most points against QB’s. Eli has a very good price due to his inconsistent play. This may be the week Manning gets on the same page with his WR’s. If you need to save money this may be the spot.
Starting Running Back
Brian Leonard – Leonard may be in a timeshare with Rainey but I think he still gets enough work to cover his value. Leonard will get the 3rd down work so you should see 3-5 receptions. Leonard should still get 15-20 touches.
Lesean McCoy – I really like McCoy this week. The Washington D allows the 5th most points to RB’s. With an over/under at 53, McCoy will have plenty to do with the Eagles putting up points. Owners should spend on McCoy this week.
Practice Squad Running Back (Considered Starting)
Marshawn Lynch – I decided to go expensive at WR instead of spending on Lynch. This will be a tough fade. Minnesota allows the 4th most points against RB’s. Beast mode will need some extra skittles on the sideline.
Starting Wide Receiver
Antonio Brown – Brown gets a great matchup against a defense that allows the 3rd most points to WR’s. Brown’s only fault is consistently finding the end zone. He gets a favorable price for his matchup. Look for Brown to find the end zone for the 4th time this season.
Pierre Garcon – Fantasy owners won’t find more of a dream matchup than this one vs. the Eagles. Philly is the worst defense against WR’s. This game should be a back and forth with a lot of offense. Garcon should have no problem covering his price.
Vincent Jackson – I was eyeing this matchup before the prices were released. Most sites have dropped Jackson’s price due to his past couple weeks. DS jacked up his price purely based on the matchup. Atlanta is the 6th worst defense against WR’s. I really think V Jax rebounds nicely this week.
Rishard Matthews – If anyone watched Matthews’ game Monday night, you would be on board as well. Wallace has clearly struggled this year and Tannehill has seemed to found his go to man in Matthews. I really like my ceiling for this value play.
Practice Squad Wide Receiver (Considered Starting)
Desean Jackson – The Eagles offense has been rolling. Although the big plays seem to be going to Cooper, Jackson has still been getting his. Washington allows the 5th most points to WR’s parlayed with a 53 point O/U, the points have to come from somewhere. Desean should have a good game if you can afford him.
Starting Tight End
Rob Gronkowski – The Panthers are actually pretty tough against opposing TE’s. Gronk is clearly one of those players who is match up proof. His price is very reasonable for one of the best fantasy players. Look for Gronk to have a big game in primetime.
Practice Squad Tight End (Considered Starting)
Mercedes Lewis – This play would’ve been purely based off the matchup and to save money. Arizona has been atrocious to opposing TE’s. I just didn’t have enough confidence in Lewis being 100% healthy. He does also play for the Jaguars. What was I thinking?!?
Starting Defense
Giants – I decided not to spend on the Seahawks this week. I think they are by far the best defense this week. The Giants play at home against a QB that was on the practice squad 3 weeks ago. The Giants should have plenty of opportunities to rack up some sacks and get a few turnovers.
Practice Squad Defense (Considered Starting)
Seahawks – As I mentioned above, I decided not to spend on the Seahawks this week. Seattle gets a terrible team at home. Look for this ball hawking defense to have a few opportunities to score a touchdown.
DraftKings Draftking Guaranteed Prize Pool Line-up
Starting Connection
B. Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown – The problem in forming a GPP line-up this week is the tough match-up for the elite QB options: Rivers at Miami, Brees versus San Francisco, Manning versus Kansas City, Stafford at Pittsburgh, and Ponder at Seattle. Wait. Well. You get the point. I went for a discount at quarterback with Roethlisberger, who is quietly on pace for his highest season pass yard total. He draws a home match-up with Detroit, who has given up just shy of 300 yards and 2.5 TDs on average over the last 4 weeks.
His #1 target is Antonio Brown, who also leads the NFL in receptions. When you couple that with his high probability of going over 100 yards, he fits the DraftKings scoring perfectly. Also, with his price at a very affordable $6,500, he doesn’t crack the fantasy piggy bank to get your connection framework in place.
Practice Squad Connection (Considered Starting)
Nick Foles to DeSean Jackson – As you click “Submit” on your lineup with Nick Foles, it becomes “the pint of beer is half-full or half -empty” situation. The half-full approach focuses on 7 touchdowns, in one game, and the 8 remaining ounces of delicious Spotted Cow. The half-empty approach remembers the should-have-been-plush match-up with the Cowboys, where Foles was battered, inaccurate, and unfortunately in my lineup. The half-empty view also notes when the beer is gone, you’re going to miss some football to get off the coach and get more.
I had no hesitation in using Jackson over Cooper, despite Cooper’s great couple weeks. Under the radar, Jackson still put up 2 great box scores in Cooper’s 2 explosive games, and when you factor targets, track record and racism, Jackson is, for sure, the guy. Ultimately, I benched Foles-to-Jackson because of their $17,100 package price tag, opting for the $13,600 of Roethlisberger-to-Brown.
Starting Running Backs
Danny Woodhead – I think it is possible that when God created Danny Woodhead, the central thought going through his gigantic God head was this: “Some of the fantasy football leagues are going to be point-per-reception leagues, I think I’ll make “Danny Woodhead(player-profile)”:/players/Danny_Woodhead-11702.” Miami certainly agrees with PPR scoring as well, allowing the 25th most RB receptions per game and the 29th most RB receiving yards per game.
Ben Tate – This was close for me, as there were several viable options at this price point. Ultimately, I went with Tate on gut, despite him not fitting the scoring system perfectly. The hope is lots of usage and a few receptions, in an attempt to keep too much from falling on the rookie quarterback’s shoulders. Also, another week removed from broken ribs, the hope was he rounds back into the early season form that had at least me wondering why Foster was the starter and Tate the backup.
Practice Squad Running Back (Considered Starting)
Andre Ellington – He’d be in our starting line-up, except that coaches lie. If the touches that the Arizona coaching staff promised were guaranteed, he’d be starting for us in a juicy match-up at Jacksonville. In addition to the workload, two lingering trends were enough to bench Ellington: 1) his targets/receptions have been on the decline & 2) the Jacksonville defense has been playing slightly better.
Starting Wide Receivers
DeSean Jackson – The Philadelphia-Washington match-up is going to make the OK Corral look like a game of Duck Hunt. Shoot-Out City. Jackson, who has historically been a boom or bust guy, has been fairly reliable this year. With less than 62 yards receiving in only 2 of 10 games, 7 touchdowns in those 10 games, and 100 yard bonus potential for days, Jackson has the perfect GPP combo of high floor-high ceiling.
Rishard Matthews – This value play was goes hand-in-hand with my tight end selection. Either Mike Wallace plays hurt or sits, but either way it helps Matthews’ potential targets. He stepped into the high volume role last Monday against Tampa Bay that “Brandon Gibson(player-profile)”:/players/Brandon_Gibson-12446’s patella tendon abandoned. When that role is pitted against a defense that allows the 30th most receptions per game and the 31st most receptions per game, the name is irrelevant (which is nice because spelling that first name is a nightmare). The wide receiver minimum price tag doesn’t hurt either.
Practice Squad Wide Receiver (Considered Starting)
Vincent Jackson – The last two weeks, Jackson has been very quiet, but in tough match-ups. His 12 targets over the last two weeks is a far cry from the 60 targets he had in the 4 weeks prior to that. It was that trend alone that led me to start D-Jax over V-Jax. That, and the fact that Mike Glennon, at 6’6” and 225 pounds, looks like he could hide behind a broom stick.
Starting Tight End
Rob Gronkowski – Tight end is a little like quarterback this week: a lot of the good guys have tough draws (Thomas, Reed, Graham, Davis, and Cameron). Gronk’s opponent, Carolina, looks equally difficult on face. Lately, though, Carolina has given up good days to Kyle Rudolph, Tim Wright, and Tony Gonzalez. Also, coming off a bye and drawing an equally tough match-up for the Patriot wide receivers, you’d expect Belichek to get the ball to “Yo soy fiesta” early and often.
Practice Squad Tight End (Considered Starting)
Scott Chandler – This would have been a different sort of strategy going from the brand name rack to the bargain bin. Chandler though, has two things working in his favor: 1) a great draw, as the Jets are giving up as many points to tight ends recently as any team and 2) little competition for the ball, as both Buffalo starting wide receivers won’t play. Ultimately, he’s still Scott Chandler.
Starting Defense
Buffalo Bills – With the way both the Jets and Bills like to try to run the ball, you’d expect the game to sport a low play total. If Geno Smith is forced to go to the air, he’s not shy to pull the trigger. When you hear “Bang,” it’ll be followed by a “Roar.” That will be the home crowd in Buffalo cheering on their Bills adding to their league leading interception total.
Practice Squad Defense (Considered Starting)
Houston Texans – What is a Matt McGloin?
