League of Legends DFS Overview: LPL - Friday, March 20th

We’re back with yet another short slate offering for League of Legends LPL action on DraftKings and (coming soon – new!) FanDuel. It is important to note that the daily fantasy eSports slate begins very early Friday, though your ability to stay awake will be rewarded: There is another big (by LoL standards) $60K guaranteed GPP and loads of other action available.

While it’s nothing compared to what we’re used to, it feels great to be covering a DFS slate and we’re ready to give you the information you need to kickstart your lineup building process.

IMPORTANT: League of Legends tools such as our LineupHQ optimizer will be moving to a stand-alone premium status soon. Be sure to give everything we offer a test drive today and then sign up for the tools and information we’ll provide this coming weekend, when some additional LOL leagues will return to action.

Matchup Breakdown:

This game sets up as one of the closer games for this three-game slate. I think ZWuji has the advantage at ADC, but overall, I think LNG has the advantage on RW. RW is one of the worst teams in the league at farming, which gives a nice edge to LNG. LNG ran out Light in the last match against V5, and after losing the second game, they went right back to Asura. Asura will start tonight. Both of these teams are in the top half of kills per game, which makes this a really strong game to attack for upside. I think we see a 2-1 LNG win, but honestly, I think it’s a coinflip and will have exposure to both sides of this game on separate teams. When looking at LNG, I really like Maple and he will be my main target from this team. I think using Duan, team LNG, and Flandre make for a cheaper type of stack.

RW is coming off a strong win against EDG and took a game against IG earlier this week. RW is sixth in the league as far as kills per game, but they rank fourth worse in gold per minute. ZWuji has some of the biggest upside on this entire slate, and I like him for a contrarian captain play when playing RW. ZWuji is averaging 27.3% damage with a 3.9 KDA this season. I also really like Crazy, he has a 4.1 KDA this season, and has played really well in the wins this season. I like the idea of playing Ruby to make it a three-player stack and could also see using WeiYan because this game could be a little bloody and overlooked. My favorite thing about this game, there are really strong stacks on both sides of this game, so it’s really easy to get exposure to both teams on separate builds.

Matchup Breakdown:

I think this game has some potential to stay close, but I think a lot of things are going to have to go right for EDG for that to happen. Hope is going to have to have a big game for this game to stay close and for EDG to potentially win. I think EDG is at a disadvantage across the board, but I do think Hope could be a difference maker. I like the JDG way more than the EDG side of this game. If I do play any EDG stacks, it would start with Hope and Scout. Aodi is starting for the first time this season. He played the LPL Season 8 summer season with Vici Gaming. He had a 1.7 KDA and a 59.8% kill participation, plus he had low damage rates even in wins. I lean Junjia over Aodi if stacking this team and could also see Meiko having a good game if they win.

JDG has been really strong before and after the break. They fell 1-2 to FPX, but they won four games 2-0 this season. They have a 1.84 Kill to Death ratio on the season, which is the best in the league by .46, and they lead the league in gold differential per minute. They’re such a good team and they play so well together they almost limit their own upside. I think LvMao is the best support play on the slate, and you could even argue playing him in the captain spot in cash games. I think this whole team is strong, but like I said, if this is a 2-0 win, they might not have the upside as a 4-player stack to win a tournament. If you’re playing them, you want the games to go long and be close with a lot of blood. I will have some stacks in tournaments and will be looking at them for cash games. I think LokeN and Kanavi have the most upside on this team, and I think they’re two of the safer options for cash.

Matchup Breakdown:

I think this is the most lopsided matchup on this three-game slate, and we’re seeing a very different lineup for VG. RNG lost to BLG before the hiatus, but they’ve gone 6-1 in three matches since returning. Forge being back for VG seems like a nice upgrade over Zeka, but he’s clearly outmatched against LangX. I think LangX will be a popular play in captain for cash games, which I think makes a lot of sense. Betty has the most upside on this team and should be someone you’re looking at in all formats. My worry about tournament stacks is Vici Gaming isn’t a high kills per game team (lowest kills per game in the league). I think RNG handles this game 2-0 and they all have really good games.

As you can tell from above, I really think VG is overmatched in this game. They’re a +375 dog in this game, and while dogs have done a good job this season, I don’t think that’s the case with this game. VG has been able to take a game against Top Esports and JD Gaming in their last two matches, but I watched the JDG matchup and feel like they were trying some stuff. Forge will start over Zeka and played in both matches before the hiatus. In those two matches, Forge had a 31.9% damage rate with an 81.7% kill participation. If you’re playing the contrarian upset stack, I would start it with Forge. Outside of that, Aix is starting for the first time since the win against Dominus. Get creative with this secondary stack if you’re rolling the dice on them.
