MLB Big Events: Dinkpiece Takes Down DK, DS Qualifiers

Tuesday has become the new Wednesday in the Daily Fantasy Sports industry as we’ve shifted from NBA to MLB, and last night did not disappoint with several big GPP’s/Q’s throughout the big three sites. FanDuel ran a $535 DFBC Q and a $125K Monster, while DraftKings and DraftStreet both ran Q’s for their end-of-season championships. Before we get into the breakdowns, I’d like to congratulate dinkpiece on taking down the DraftKings and DraftStreet qualifiers last night, setting himself up for two chances at a $1,000,000 first prize at the end of the summer. He was just 2.5 fantasy points away from winning the FanDuel DFBC qualifier as well, so flat-out dominated last night. Let’s take a look at the big winners from Tuesday night…

FanDuel $535 DFBC Qualifier

Congratulations to lovesbases for winning last night’s DFBC qualifier and securing his chance to compete for the $1,000,000 first prize in Vegas! Big performances from David Price (9 IP, 12 K’s and a W) and Brandon Moss (2 HR’s, 5 RBI’s) put him in a really nice spot, but the fact that he received some kind of positive production from every spot in his lineup pushed him over the top (Dee Gordon at 2.25 FP’s was the low man on the totem pole). MrTuttle05 finished just 1.25 FP’s behind in 2nd place by also rostering Price and Moss, but the rest of his team came up inches short of 1st place. Dinkpiece rode an A’s stack to a 3rd place finish, followed by bw5126 in 4th and kingofqueens in 5th. GrindersLive/Sirius host al_smizzle finished in 7th place, the final paid spot in the $535 Q.

Dinkpiece relied heavily on the A’s last night, and they certainly didn’t disappoint with an 11-0 win over Scott Carroll and the White Sox. Drew Pomeranz threw five shutout innings, striking out eight and picking up the win in the process. Outside of that game, Dink also picked up a whopping 45.15 FP’s from David Price, and a late home run from Miguel Cabrera really helped his cause. Brandon Moss was also a key to GPP success last night, posting 39 FP’s with a double, two HR’s and five RBI’s. Makisupa finished just over four FP’s behind Dink in 2nd place, as he also stacked the A’s but went with Mike Minor as his second starting pitcher instead of rolling with Pomeranz. JSmizz24 (JSmith71710 on RG) only played one of the A’s bats (Moss, of course), but was able to get solid production from Brian McCann, Josh Beckett, Chase Utley and Jhonny Peralta on his way to a 3rd place finish. Jordanh415 (4th), leonem (5th), and McJester (7th) also finished in the top ten of this one.

And the dinkpiece domination continues… He edged this one out by just .17 FP’s, but it was enough for him to earn his second shot at a $1,000,000 first prize in this year’s DSBC. Along with his trip to Atlantis, it’s safe to say he’ll be a busy man this summer, and quite possibly a much wealthier one! All three of his starting pitchers (Price, Minor and Pomeranz) put up good numbers; anytime you can get almost 50 FP’s out of your pitchers alone on DS, you’re setting yourself up for a big night. Brandon Moss must have earned himself a place in Dink’s heart with those two bombs, as Moss was once again the catalyst of his success with 20.5 FP’s. Brian McCann, Josh Reddick and Miguel Cabrera also helped out on the offensive end with double-digit fantasy point performances. MnBlkbrd84 (hend0479 on RG) was saddled with the 2nd place finish, but the $1800 2nd place prize is a nice consolation, although it undoubtedly stings a bit to come that close to glory. He was part of the 3% of the field that played David Ortiz in the UTIL spot, a very nice selection considering it’s tough to roster him on DS due to the DH-only eligibility. Frogman finished in 3rd place with an A’s stack and the same group of pitchers (Price, Minor and Pomeranz) that led Dink to the promise land, and PrimeTime420 was also right in the thick of things in 4th place. Had Ryan Vogelsong been able to hold down the Braves offense just a little longer, PT420 could have very easily took 1st place (he finished less then 2 FP’s out of 1st). CB35 (5), bw5126 (8), radthad954 (9) and naapstermaan (10) also finished in the top ten.

Yes, McJester was our best finisher in this one (2nd place), but no, this isn’t an NBA tournament. We should all now be very, very afraid. If you frequented the FD Slam this past NBA season, you know the name well; he absolutely dominated the NBA scene this season and was atop our TPOY leaderboard for quite some time and still sits in 2nd place, and I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see him find his way back to the top spot. Price, Moss and McCann were among the GPP must-haves last night, and all three were apart of McJester’s 2nd place squad (which won him a cool $12K). Yonno86 was just a point behind the NBA GPP master in 3rd place, thanks to a big game from Juan Francisco in addition to Price and Moss. McJester had a second entry finish in 5th place, and was followed by dmiller61, lovesbases, kiduno (Galofaro on RG), hyue (Bjhaughey on RG) and mrtuttle05 to round out the top ten.
