MLB Daily Grind Down: Wednesday, July 10th
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 7.5
- Favored Team – ATL -139
Pitcher Grind Down
MIA – Jacob Turner has been very good for the Marlins this season. In 7 starts this season, he has a 2.30 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He hasn’t really been a great fantasy option though because he plays on the Marlins who often fail to give their pitchers run support. his 5.7 K’s per 9 innings isn’t great either. I think he could be in play in a GPP, but there are better options. Avoid
ATL – Paul Maholm got off to a great start this season and has since cooled way off. He has given up at least 7 hits and 2 earned runs in each of his last 5 starts. Vegas has him as the favorite, but I’m not all that sold on Maholm today. He has struggled on the road this season with a 5.18 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. He’s in play thanks to the matchup, but don’t be surprised if he gives up 3-4 runs. In Play
Batter Grind Down
MIA – Like I said above, I’m not too sold on Maholm today. I don’t think the Marlins as a team are a great option today, but I do like both Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna. Stanton has great power numbers against lefties and Ozuna is batting .328 against lefties this season.
ATL – Turner has been good for the fish this season, but the Braves offense is clicking right now. Freddie Freeman, Justin Upton, Jayson Heyward, and Brian McCann have all been swinging hot bats. Look for value and take one or two of them.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down
MIL – Yesterday’s game was supposed to be high scoring just like today’s, yet we got stuck with a 2-0 shutout by the Brewers. Don’t expect that to happen again today. Johnny Hellweg will make sure that it doesn’t happen again. He has an ERA over 12 this season and can be avoided against the Reds. Avoid
CIN – Mike Leake has been excellent for the Reds this season. His 2.37 ERA and 1.137 WHIP are really incredible when you consider that half of his starts are in the hitter friendly Great American Ballpark. I don’t love or hate Leake today against the Brewers. He is a big favorite, but there are expected to be a good number of runs scored. In Play
Batter Grind Down
MIL – Rickie Weeks has had some success against Leake in the past going 5/9 against him with 4 XBH’s. I like Weeks as a really cheap 2B, but certainly don’t pay a lot for him. Outside of Weeks, I don’t see too much value.
CIN – The Reds are in another great spot today, maybe this time they can actually come through. Hellweg has been awful in his first 3 starts, so mini-stack away on the Reds. Shin-Soo Choo is my favorite of the bunch as you get both speed and pop.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 7.5
- Favored Team – SF -200
Pitcher Grind Down
SF – Matt Cain continues to under perform this season. A lot of it has to do with bad luck, but his last outing of 8 earned runs in only 2 innings was just bad pitching. I think we see a nice bounce back game from him today and because of his last outing, he is a bit cheaper than usual. The Mets are not a great offense and Cain should be able to pick up a win. Target
NYM – Zack Wheeler has been OK in his first 4 starts in the big leagues. He has posted a 4.29 ERA and a 1.619 WHIP. Not exactly Matt Harvey type of numbers. The Giants offense came alive a bit last night and I think they are in a good spot to score some runs. Wheeler is a big underdog. Avoid
Batter Grind Down
SF – Today may finally be the day to hop back on the Panda train. He has two straight games with hits and is facing a rookie pitcher that has found himself in trouble quite often. The Panda is dirt cheap and should be batting 4th or 5th. Hunter Pence can be taken for cheap too.
NYM – Not a big fan of the Mets today, but David Wright has had some success off of Cain in the past. He is 11/24 against him. Ike Davis is also a decent GPP option as he is as cheap as they come and could always get you a HR.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down
PHI – Cliff Lee gets the start for the Phillies tonight and you have to love the matchup against the Nationals. If the lefties John Lannan and Cole Hamels can have great success against this Nationals team, then Cliff Lee should have no problem against them. Lee has been excellent all season and should continue that tonight. Target
WAS – Gio Gonzalez is back to being the pitcher that he has been over the last couple of seasons. He had a little bit of a rough start, but has been excellent over the last month or so. I like the matchup against the Phillies and could see this game being decided by one run. In Play
Batter Grind Down
- Whenever you have two really good pitchers facing off against each other, there is no reason to take a risk by taking any bats from that game. Better options elsewhere.

What Vegas Says

- Favored Team – DET -230
Pitcher Grind Down
DET – Raise your hand if you also got screwed by Mr. Verlander last night! Wooo that was sure awesome. He was cruising there for a while and then just fell apart. Let’s hope that the same thing doesn’t happen to Rick Porcello tonight. Porcello is a guy with a high ceiling, but he also he’s just as likely to get crushed as he is to have a great game. Ultimate risk/reward play, but I like the matchup. Target
CWS – Dylan Axelrod has given up 6, 4, 4, 3, and 5 earned runs in his last 5 starts. None of those starts would be considered a good day fantasy wise. Safe to avoid him tonight against the Tigers.
Batter Grind Down
DET – On your mark, get set, stack the Tigers. Everything to love about this matchup tonight. Axelrod has been giving up runs by the handful and the Tigers offense will be chomping at the bit. All bats are in play.
CWS – Porcello has had some good success against the White Sox but then again do did Verlander. If you look at the past couple weeks, this offense has really been struggling and I think tonight they get back to having trouble scoring runs.
