DET vs L | DET BvP | CHW vs R | CHW BvP
Pitcher Grind Down
- Anibal Sanchez – Anibal is definitely one of the top-5 pitchers available today. He is averaging significantly less FPPG on the road but that’s due to a lack of run support more than his ERA (2.83 on the road, 2.42 at home). Get him in against a porous CWS lineup. Starter Rating: 8 out of 10
- Jose Quintana – In one start against DET this year he gave up 3 ER over 8 IP with 7 K’s. He’s a heavy dog here and with the O/U set to 8, Vegas sees Detroit scoring a bit. That’s not surprising since they are one of the best hitting teams vs. LHP in baseball. Starter Rating: 4 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Miggy and Tuiasosopo both have HRs off Quintana in limited samples.
- Quintana has just a .682 OPS against right handed bats on the year, but the 15 HRs have killed him. He’s a reverse splits pitcher though, allowing lefties to hit .744 off of him.
- De Aza is the only White Sox bat in play, having hit 2 2B’s and 4 hits in 6 ABs vs. Sanchez.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Sonny Gray – Outside of one hiccup, 4 of his last 5 starts have been gems and the talented prospect is living up to the hype as the A’s try and keep up. But (in a small sample) his road ERA is over 5 compared to just above 1 at home. I think he has good upside vs. a weak Twins lineup but would be cautious. Starter Rating: 6.5 out of 10
- Mike Pelfrey – I have a weird habit of never taking Mike Pelfrey. I think that’s a smart decision. Starter Rating: 0 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Seth Smith is 6-13 with a HR off Pelfrey.
- Left or right handed doesn’t matter vs. Mike. Lefties have a .758 OPS against and righties are at .791.
- Sonny Gray has held righties to a .197 average against and lefties to a .209 average. I’d avoid MIN hitters.
- Moss, Donaldson and Lowrie are probably my 3 top A’s hitters today.

MIL vs R | MIL BvP | STL vs R | STL BvP
Pitcher Grind Down
- Marco Estrada – In 4 starts against STL he has a 9.61 ERA. That’s a lot of evidence that he can’t get these hitters out. Starter Rating: 1 out of 10
- Lance Lynn – At -175 he’s one of the biggest favorites tonight but he hasn’t had a decent start in any of his last 6 appearances and patience is running thin here. He also has a 6.60 ERA in 2 starts vs. MIL this year so I’m fading him this evening. Starter Rating: 5 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Molina, Beltran, Holliday, Adams, Jay and Freese ALL have HR’s in their lifetimes against Marco Estrada.
- Stack up the Cards bats tonight and watch the runs pour in.
- Avoid Aramis, who is just 2-13 with 3 K’s vs. Lynn.
- David Freese came into Monday with 2 HR and a 1.199 OPS over the last 7 days

HOU vs R | HOU BvP | SEA vs R | SEA BvP
Pitcher Grind Down
- Brad Peacock – Peacock dominated the A’s in his last start and actually has some decent upside but the ERA over 9 against the Mariners this season is as bad as it gets. I expect some runs in this one. Starter Rating: 3 out of 10
- Brandon Maurer – He’s really, really, really bad and even against the Astros I can’t bring myself to recommending him. Starter Rating: 3 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- Villar and Altuve are in auto-steal mode every time they got on base. That adds a ton of value especially against the right handed Maurer.
- LJ Hoes has been on a tear of late and hits righties a lot better than left.
- Maurer allows lefties to a .965 OPS-against and righties to a .885 OPS-against. Basically, target anyone.
- Brad Peacock has been great against righties (.198 average allowed) but has been ripped by left handers. Target Ibanez, Seager, Morales and Miller tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Patrick Corbin – His K-rate is way down, having struck out just 15 batters in his last 3 starts. He’s also given up a HR in each of his last 5 games played. I’m not saying he’s not a great young pitcher but in a game where it’s tough for him to get the W vs. Ryu, he may not be worth a high price tag to carry your lineups. Starter Rating: 6 out of 10
- Hyun-Jin Ryu – His 2.07 Home ERA and 7.7 K/9 are both great splits but the Dbacks have hit him hard this season and can crush lefties on any given night. His ERA in 3 starts against is 6.60 and, like Corbin, getting the W will be tough tonight. Starter Rating: 6 out of 10
Batter Grind Down
- This seems like a good game to avoid for DFS purposes. Should be a low scoring grind game with both pitchers allowing a couple of runs but neither offense getting a lot going.
