MLB DFS tournament play is unlike that of any other sport. Predicting outcomes with precision is difficult, and player variance is near its peak. There are special considerations when constructing lineups in order for you to find success in the long term. Each weekday, our DFS analysts will examine a specific tournament format and help you understand the application of strategy, via concepts such as pitcher pairings, roster construction, stacking, leverage, ownership, variance, and more.

Pitching Texture

At first glance, Friday’s high-priced pitching options seem fairly equal as both Noah Syndergaard and Blake Snell find themselves in favorable matchups. My initial analysis had Syndergaard as the top option against a truly dreadful Tigers offense losing the DH but I was shocked to see how far apart Derek Carty’s projection system, THE BAT, had these two. According to the BAT, Syndergaard is Friday’s runaway top option as he’s currently projected for roughly 10 DK points and 16 FD points better than Snell. Ownership projections currently view Syndergaard (32% DK) and Snell (29% DK) as equal. With similar ownership expected but a massive gap in THE BAT’s raw projection, it makes sense to take an overweight stance on Syndergaard while shorting Snell.
