STLCardinals84, one of the best tournament players in the game, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.

Happy Monday, everyone! Cheese is traveling back from another live final experience over the weekend, so I have you covered for one more day. We are almost done with the month of August, and the major league baseball season is about to enter the home stretch. Playoff races are taking shape, and it should be a mad dash to the finish with the Wild Card races sitting tight in both leagues.

This Monday evening brings us a surprisingly large night slate with twelve games on the docket, and there is plenty to discuss for both pitchers and hitters. Let’s dig in and try to uncover some strong MLB DFS picks for tonight!

Kevin Gausman vs. Nationals
Blake Snell vs. Cardinals
Zac Gallen vs. Dodgers

While we have a lot of “above average” pitching on the slate tonight, but there isn’t a lot of “great” pitching available. These three pitchers have separated themselves from the pack in terms of their overall numbers for 2023, but they aren’t without faults. Let’s start with a look at the data:

Gausman – 3.23 ERA, 3.06 xFIP, 32% K, 6% BB
Snell – 2.73 ERA, 3.61 xFIP, 31% K, 13% BB
Gallen – 3.11 ERA, 3.43 xFIP, 27% K, 5% BB

You can see that all three of these pitchers have very strong surface ERA numbers, and nobody has an xFIP worse than Snell at 3.61. The strikeout rates are all well above league average, as well.

I mentioned above that they aren’t without faults. Kevin Gausman has not had a double digit strikeout game since June. Blake Snell has walked at least two batters in eleven straight starts and always racks up high pitch counts. Zac Gallen has a very difficult matchup against a red hot Dodgers team.

I’m going to side with the path of least resistance, and that’s with a preference to Gausman. He has been the most consistent throughout the year and is a massive home favorite against the Nationals. While Washington has played better offensively in the second half, they are still projected for just 2.9 runs tonight.
