Covering The Bases: MLB DFS Picks for Saturday, July 13th
Long-time grinder, stlcardinals84, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks.
Happy Saturday, Grinders! We have the usual split slate Saturday on tap, with a lean toward the afternoon games. Both FanDuel and DraftKings are offering us an eight-game main slate that starts around 4 PM Eastern, and then we have just a handful of night games later on.
This looks to be a fairly quiet day in terms of weather, so we shouldn’t have too much to worry about on that front. Let’s dig in and see what the day has to offer!
Saturday Afternoon Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
IS THERE A TOP TIER OF PITCHING?
You know what? There really isn’t an ace tier today.
Do you want to call Seth Lugo an ace? He’s been good in real life, but he’s nowhere near a high-upside DFS arm.
Do you want to call Kutter Crawford an ace? I’ll pass.
Do you want to call Luis Gil an ace? We could have had that discussion a month ago, but certainly not right now — and certainly not in his matchup today.
Do you want to call Nathan Eovaldi an ace? He’d be the other argument, but he hasn’t topped eight strikeouts in a start all season.
There really isn’t a top “tier” today. It just doesn’t exist, and I can’t make it exist. We have one giant group of pitchers, and I can just discuss them all together in the next section.
However, the one pitcher who does potentially merit some discussion on his own is Grayson Rodriguez. He has an ERA and xFIP in the mid-3s to go along with a strikeout rate approaching 27% for the season. The only negative is that he has a difficult matchup against the Yankees, but all the top pitchers have relatively difficult matchups today. The Yankees have not been playing great baseball of late, and Rodriguez is quietly turning into an ace for Baltimore. He has fantastic metrics across the board, and he has a nice blend of safety and upside. He has scored 20+ DK points and 35+ FD points in seven of his last eight starts, and he will be my SP1 on this slate.
SECONDARY PITCHING OPTIONS
Bear with me now… this is going to be a big group for the reasons I mentioned above.
