Happy Saturday, Grinders! The usual split slate is in the cards today. We have a healthy 8-game main slate starting at 4:05 PM ET, and that will be our primary view for today. We also have a 5-game evening slate that I will break down as well.

After a bit of a wild Friday, the weather looks largely clear with the exception of some potential storms in Kansas City later that could impact the HOU/KCR evening game. We will have to keep an eye on that as lineup lock gets closer. Otherwise, it should be all systems go for lineup building.

Let’s dive in and see what the start of the weekend has available for MLB DFS picks!

Saturday Afternoon Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

Yamamoto of the Dodgers

TOP TIER PITCHERS

We have a fun trio of top pitchers today, and all of them are capable of having big games whenever they take the mound. Tarik Skubal is making a surprisingly early return from his injury, and it will be fun to see him back on the mound. As always, I will begin with a peek at the 2026 data for these aces:

deGrom – 3.18 ERA, 3.23 xFIP, 29.8% K, 5.3% BB
Yamamoto – 2.68 ERA, 3.24 xFIP, 24.7% K, 5.1% BB
Skubal – 2.70 ERA, 2.59 xFIP, 27.1% K, 3.6% BB (43 innings)

As much as we all love Tarik Skubal, I have to throw cold water on the flames today. He is returning from the injured list much earlier than expected, and he only got up to 54 pitches in his single rehab start. I’d be shocked to see him get over 70 pitches. Our early projections have him at 80, and I think even that is too high. Although 70-80 pitches of Skubal could be enough to put up a respectable DFS outing, it’s not enough to justify a $10,000+ salary tag on both FD and DK on a slate where we also have other ace pitchers. Leave Skubal alone for DFS purposes until he gets back to being fully stretched out.

With Skubal out of the mix, that leaves us to choose from Jacob deGrom and Yoshinobu Yamamoto at the top. Their metrics are all very similar across the board, with the exception being that deGrom has a 30% strikeout rate compared to 25% for Yamamoto. However, Yamamoto makes up for this difference by going deeper into games, and he has thrown 7+ innings in 3 of his last 4 starts. He also faces a White Sox team that has the 3rd-highest team strikeout rate against RHP this year. Though they have continued to hit well even after the injury to Munetaka Murakami, I think some regression will set in at some point.

Jacob deGrom has the “safer” matchup of the aces against a Red Sox team that has scuffled all year long offensively, though they have been a little better in recent weeks. The overall profile for deGrom remains fantastic, and he still has a swinging-strike rate above 17% for the year. That suggests that the elite strikeout rate is sustainable. I am really curious to see where the masses go here. The metrics would tell you deGrom is probably the smart SP1 choice today. However, my gut is telling me that Yamamoto is the best option for upside, with the Dodgers looking for some length out of him after Roki Sasaki was shelled last night.

You really aren’t making a wrong choice with either pitcher, but I will have more exposure to Yamamoto than deGrom as my SP1 today. It’s a very close call.
